I dont see this listed anywhere yet on the site. If it is please move my post but I find this a bit disturbing.

Shirley Meeks 59 was murdered this past weekend in Jackson Michigan. These circumstances are very sad :( and scarey. I can not understand how no one heard anything, and that her apartment door remained wide open for possibly 3-4 hours and no one noticed anything? Really? Articles regarding the case contained in the following link:

Wow.

Thank you for all the links, Guinever. Yes, nobody knew anything?

That guy has two engineering degrees? He's obviously mentally ill, but we'kk see how this pans out, right.

RIP Shirley.

Found this article back from 2003 just by googling Kwaske's name. How extremely sad. His poor family tried everything to get him help. Eventually it led to a trial in court which is rare as to weather or not he could be commited and stay commited. Within minutes it was ruled he was a danger to himself and others.

Kwaske was likened to "A Beuatiful Mind".

Link gives information on the bizarre practices Kwaske had and the danger to his family.

Hi Filly,

I did see the article you linked. Kwaske had some very disturbing delusions to say the least.

What stikes me, is that the victim was also diagnosed with the very same type of disorders, and had delusions as well. "The doctor who examined Meeks diagnosed her with paranoia and schizophrenia, writing that she had delusions of people trying to kill her." Described in this article:

http://www.mlive.com/news/jackson/index.ssf/2011/10/schizophrenia_and_paranoia_pla.html

Unfortunate their paths had to cross. Makes me wonder why if/why he picked her for this very gruesome crime?

Not much publicity on this case considering the details are so disturbing. I'm wondering what evidence they found in his apartment, and exactly where they found her head.

Reading both articles it seems they were both diagnosed at the same place "Foote Hospital". Wonder if they could have crossed paths there at some point?

46-year-old Leo Kwaske now has an attorney. Jerry Engle described the circumstances surrounding Shirley Meeks' slaying as "bizarre,"

http://www.therepublic.com/view/story/e1470dd21d1544908dc40662cdc57d34/MI--Beheaded-Woman-Michigan/

The answer to where her head was found: "Engle wrote that Meeks' head was found in Kwaske's apartment in the same building."

A hearing was set for December to review results of the evaluations and determine whether a preliminary hearing would be scheduled to determine whether there is enough evidence for him to stand trial.

Doctors will have 15 months to restore Leo Kwaske's competency before charges are dismissed; prosecutor's office can re-file charges at any time

http://www.mlive.com/news/jackson/index.ssf/2011/10/doctors_will_have_15_months_to.html

"On Tuesday, the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti released its opinion that Kwaske is not competent to stand trial, said Jerry Engle, his attorney. Engle said his client’s history of treatment for mental illnesses shows that medication can control Kwaske. Engle said he has to assume that with the appropriate medication, Kwaske can be competent to stand trial."

"However, because Kwaske is facing a charge carrying a possible sentence of life in prison, the Mental Health Code allows the prosecutor’s office to re-file charges against Kwaske at any time."
