NE - Bryson & Samantha Eyten & 2 others for child abuse, North Platte, 2011

The suspects were identified by police as Bryson L. Eyten, 25; Samantha J. Eyten, 24; Ashly A. Clark, 22; and Lacy J. Beyer, 20.

The four children were removed from the home and placed in state custody, police said. The Eytens are the parents of the two boys, said North Platte Police Lt. Rich Hoaglund. Clark is the mother of the two girls.

Two young children, ages 5 and 3, were found in the metal kennel, which was secured by a wire tie, Hoaglund said. The cage reportedly had a mattress.

Two other children, ages 8 years and 8 months, were not in the kennel but were considered to be in unsafe conditions.

4 adults in the home. Yet they felt they had to use a dog cage as a playpen??? Or was that where they were put for punishment?

It doesn't really matter, they were treating their kids like dogs. And treating their dogs better than the kids because at least the dogs got to get out and run around.

    June 2012:

Two of the so-called “kid kennelers,” Lacy Jay Beyer and Bryson Lee Eyten, appeared in Lincoln County Court Thursday and pled no contest to sharply reduced charges of misdemeanor child abuse and false imprisonment.

Both Beyer and Eyten were sentenced to one year probation, and Lincoln County Judge Michael Piccolo said they must attend counseling if their probation officer deems it necessary.
The court is awaiting a report from the probation officer. Eyten is also attending parenting classes, defense attorney Mike Nozicka told Piccolo...

All four were charged with felony child abuse and false imprisonment.

As the case progressed, key evidence was tossed out because the accused were not advised of their Miranda Rights when they were arrested, so statements they made during later interviews – in particular an interview the next day with Health and Human Service workers – was inadmissible.

Because two boys, ages five and three, were sleeping in a wire animal kennel with a mattress inside, Clark, Beyer and the Eytens were each charged with two counts of felony child abuse and two counts of false imprisonment.

The door to the 30-by-42-inch wire dog kennel was tied shut with wire, police said.

Two other children -- an 8-year-old and an 8-month-old baby -- were not in the kennel but were in unsafe conditions, according to the police.

Ashly Clark, the mother of the two boys in the kennel, said she was afraid the boys might climb out the window, police said.
The Eytens paid the required 10 percent of $25,000 bonds Dec. 16 and were released from the Lincoln County Jail. Clark and Beyer paid the same amount on Feb. 8 and were released.

On March 6, a judge allowed Clark to have three supervised visits a week with her boys.
