Human remains were discovered Monday in the backyard of an Ottawa home where it's said that accused serial killer Camille Cleroux once lived.

A construction crew discovered the remains while working in the backyard of a townhouse in a complex on Heatherington Road, south-east of downtown Ottawa.

A coroner has told police that the remains are likely several years old and it isn't clear if they are that of a woman or man.

CTV Ottawa's Catherine Lathem says neighbours have told her that Cleroux, 57, lived in the unit, about 20 years ago.

Police are refusing to confirm that, saying only that that is part of their investigation, Lathem says.

Cleroux is currently in jail awaiting trial on charges of first-degree murder in the disappearance of his neighbour, Paula Leclair, 64.

He's also being investigated in the deaths of at least two other women.

... his past wives. Lise Roy, 27 vanished in 1990 and Jean Rock, 32, disappeared in 2003.

Neither woman was ever reported missing. Family members told police they believed the women had moved away and cut off all contact voluntarily. Police believe both were killed, but no bodies have ever been found.

Police are planning further excavation of the townhouse yard, to determine if there are any more human remains to be found.

When Rock disappeared in 2003, family didn’t report her missing because they thought she wanted nothing to do with them.

Then, Rock’s family began to receive monthly letters from her.

A woman who lived in Cleroux’s building said she was hired to write letters, forging Rock’s signature.

The letters said Rock had several sons. One excitedly reported the birth of a daughter, the letter writer told the Citizen in an earlier interview.

To explain Rock’s absence, Cleroux told the letter writer he kicked her out when he found her in bed with another man.

Cleroux also told neighbours that his former wife, Lise Roy, committed suicide.

Cleroux was described by neighbours as a loner who was aggressive with women in the building. He used to bring women in the building the newspaper, flowers and wine to win them over.

“It was nice waking up to someone,” Cleroux said with a grin.

Remains found in yard still unidentified

Forensic testing not completed, judge told at accused serial killer's hearing

Court heard during an earlier appearance that police found leg and arm bones wrapped in what was believed to be butcher's paper.

Police had found a pair of thigh and leg bones along with portions of a forearm and numerous fingers following five days of digging at the townhouse, prosecutor Dallas Mack said.

The bones were initially discovered by accident by a landscaping crew and were not buried deeply, a prosecutor said during the earlier court appearance.

They were discovered by the work crew as they dug with shovels.

Still to be found: Jean Rock (last seen in 2003)
As she waits for police to find her daughter’s remains, Audrey Creelman speaks out on Jean Rock’s disappearance and death
November 21, 2011
As a young woman, Jean Rock was always disappearing and returning when you least expected. But, eight years ago, she just never came back.

The only hint of her were the letters her dad received from time to time. Don’t worry about me, the letters said. Still, she never came home.
Creelman soon discovered the letters — sent to Rock’s father between 2004 and 2009 — were fake.
Police determined that Jean Rock was last seen in 2003 when she was 32 years old.
A construction crew digging in the backyard of Cléroux’s former home at 1535 Heatherington Rd. found human remains.
Jean Rock had lived at that house, as had Lise Roy. (Remains identified as Lise Roy's - as per post below and article - link)
Then there was a second site uncovered. Police say the search at Heatherington Park this past week was another “productive” step in the investigation into three killings connected to Cléroux.

Creelman said she wasn’t aware of the second dig and she is enduring the wait for the forensic results to see if police have found her daughter.
Creelman said Rock first met Cléroux in the early 1990s when he lived at 1535 Heatherington Rd., not too long after Lise Roy disappeared. Jean Rock had two children with Cléroux.

Creelman said Rock often brought Cléroux to family gatherings.....Cléroux was quiet and would not usually participate in conversations.

“He does not appear to be a serial killer. You would walk right by this person on the street and not give them the time of day,” Creelman said. “I don’t mean that in a derogatory way, but some people catch your attention. He’s not one of those people.”
respectfully snipped by me

" Ottawa police have found human remains in a forest off Albion Road, which they believe could be linked to the case against accused serial killer Camille Cleroux.

Cleroux, 58, is accused of killing ex-wives Lisa Roy and Jean Rock, as well as former neighbour Paula Leclair, over a period of two decades.

Police returned to an area called the Fairlea Woods near the Trainyards neighbourhood to search for evidence connected to the trial, but not any new victims, police say.

Police also said the coroner arrived at the scene to examine some findings. The search is expected to last a few days, police add.

The remains will be sent to a Toronto forensic centre and the results are expected to take from a few weeks to months to complete."
