A marriage proposal took an ugly turn Tuesday night, ending with the bride-to-be's ex-boyfriend in the hospital and her groom-to-be behind bars.
The suspect, 29, came to ask for his girlfriend's hand in marriage at her ex-boyfriend's house in the 42200 block of May Creek Road.
The man proposed to the woman on the front porch while the victim, 62, was watching, Snohomish County sheriff's spokeswoman Jan Jorgensen said.
The woman accepted the proposal, and the older man became upset, Jorgensen said.
The three began yelling at each other, the argument turned into a shoving match, and the older man struck his ex-girlfriend, Jorgensen said.
The suspect went to his pickup, got a metal baseball bat and hit the older man in the ribs and on the head with the bat before driving off, Jorgensen said.
