White Female, age 17-24 found in the woods at/near Inez Labor Camp, Dunn, NC.

Physical Description: 5'7 estimated height, no weight estimate. Eye color unknown. Long auburn hair, bluish nail polish on nails.

Clothing: Dark blue tank top w/spaghetti straps over a dark blue bra w/lace and padding. Green Clavin Klein jeans and lavender panties w/lace borders.

Jewelry: "Lelle" analog watch w/yellow metal band.

mtDNA available and in Namus. Dentals entered in Namus and viewable.

Many teeth listed as postmortem loss. 2 teeth, #32 and 17 listed as antemortem (lower wisdom teeth?)

All other teeth listed as "N"

No weight estimate? Ugh. What size were the pants then? Or the bra?

I emailed LE about Michelle Crawford (http://www.doenetwork.org/cases/1769dfok.html)
as a possible lead for this UID awhile back and received the following response:

"The one discrepancy I see is that Ms. Crawford had open heart surgery and that would most definitely result in wires on the sternum, in which case, our skeleton had no wires or indications that she'd had any opened chested surgery. Our case does have a DNA profile w/UNT and if the missing girl has a profile, law enforcement could send that to UNT and they would do a quick comparison. I don't see here listed in NamUs, which would easily do the comparison then. Thank you for the interest. "

So I am guessing from this that Michelle Crawford has also been ruled out based on the lack of wires on the sternum of the UID.

An unidentified female was found on July 20, 1999 in a heavily wooded area off Easy Street in Sampson County, in between Dunn and Newton Grove. It is estimated that she died about two months prior to being found. The female was Caucasian or Hispanic, between 17 and 24 years old. She stood between 5’04”-5’07” tall. She had long red hair. Her weight is unknown but she had a slim build. Her teeth were well cared for and had no fillings. She was found wearing a black tank top, a dark blue bra with lace and padding, green “Calvin Klein” jeans, white sandals and an “elle” wrist watch with a yellow metal band. The female’s fingernails were painted with a blue green polish. The first two images above were created by a NCMEC Forensic Artist and are of a reconstruction of what the female may have looked like in life. The two images on the right are photographs of some of the items found with the female.

Bertha Sieg left home February 8, 1994 in Duncanville, Texas after an argument with her mother. She has never been seen again.

She was 15-turning-16 when she disappeared which would make her around 20 in 1999. She is listed as both White/Hispanic, 5'4", and has red hair which fits the UID's listed ranges.

North Carolina is a long ways from Texas, but the UID's profile does mention women were trafficked into the migrant laborers' camp.

That said, both Ms. Sieg and the UID have DNA profiles listed as available in NamUs so presumably they would have been tested against one another by now. Also, both have dental profiles available. Ms. Sieg seems to have had some distinctive teeth alignment on the upper right in her photograph so without orthodontic intervention, presumably a dental match would be an option.

The unidentified woman from Newton Grove described in the article was found buried beneath a mattress, according to the article.

The unidentified woman from Newton Grove is estimated to be ~110 lbs. Cause of death was cited as a stab wound to the neck. The description of her hair on DoeNetwork and Porchlight indicate her hair is "shoulder length" and "curly" rather than long or straight, hair descriptors from NamUs. The three links above also report she was deceased for two weeks prior to discovery rather than 2 months, as estimated by NamUs.

The Elle brand watch she's wearing looks like it's a brand from Elle Magazine. I remember seeing a watch like that as a promotional for when you buy a subscription to the magazine. They currently sell Elle brand watches at Kohls and online retailers.

What about Christy Garrard. White, red, curly hair, 24 years old, 5'5", missing Aug 1998.

I did this recon before I saw Christy mentioned, but comparing the two, the photo of Christy without the makeup looks very close.

Thank you Carl for doing this recon! The other ones, it's hard to explain, but they look either like she's sleepy or, I hate to say it, but dead. Not living, like a morgue photo. You've definitely brought some life to her!

Her doe network page says her body was found 100 yards from a labor camp and that women were known to traffic there. But from her clothing I just don't see it. In the nearly 10 years I've been looking at this case I always pictured her more like a child for some reason (Mid-teens).

Have you send in the tip yet? Garrard bears a strong resemblance to the deceased and on NamUs she only has one rule out so far. Very good chance it's her.

Her remains were found 100 yards from a labor camp known as both Eugene Roberts or Inez Labor Camp on Easy Street. This camp at the time was known for having women prostitutes/trafficked women. Some sources state that she was stabbed in the throat, but no definitive cause of death has been stated besides that. However, it is considered to be probable murder.

I think she could be Mary Ann Knightly. She’s missing from Delaware, but she was traveling to Florida. I mapped out the route and SCJD was found directly on the path Mary Ann would have been traveling. They look very similar in my opinion, although some of the stats are a little off from those of the UID.
