FORT WORTH -- Authorities are asking for help in identifying skeletal remains found last month in northwest Tarrant County near Lakeside.

A man riding an all-terrain vehicle in the 7200 block of La Cantera discovered the first of the remains -- a skull missing its jawbone -- on Nov. 14.

Dana Austin, a forensic anthropologist with the Tarrant County medical examiner's office, said a three-day search of the site, including one day in which cadaver dogs were used, uncovered only a few scattered bones in all but, fortunately, included the skull's mandible.

Austin said the quickest way to identify the remains would be through dental-record comparisons.

"If there are no dental records for someone who is missing, we can compare DNA that would be extracted, likely from a tooth in this case, to the DNA profile of a family member," she said.

If an identification is not made, Austin said a DNA profile extracted from the remains will be entered into a DNA database for missing persons and unidentified bodies for comparison to samples already in the database.

"The remains have been there for two to seven years, so potentially the family has already reported him missing and has samples in that database," Austin said.

Based on an examination of the remains, the deceased is believed to be a white male, between 20 and 35 years of age at the time of his death. The cause of death is not known; however, drug paraphernalia was located with the remains.

The man was wearing a pair of loose-fit Levi Strauss & Co jeans, with a 30-inch waist by 34-inch length; Hanes brand socks and black lace-up Sears-brand shoes in size 10.5.

Anyone with information about the man's possible identity is asked to contact Dr. Roger Metcalf, chief of human identification, at 817-920-5700, ext. 8387.

I take it we should be searching for a very slim male. From a quick search, most major retailers don't even offer men's jeans with a 30-inch waist, they start at 32.

Actually it is easy to find size 30 waist jeans. My son needs a 28 and in my searching I found lots of 30s, just very few 28 and 29s. 30x34 would be an extremely thin man. My son weighs 130 and is 5'7" and wears a 28x30. My husband is 5'10 and wears a 32 length. By that comparison I am guessing 6' tall and 160 pounds.

Webrocket,

Have you sent an email to the case director RE: Benjamin Lund being a match? If not, I would be happy to for you. It very well could be him.

I did not Jodie, if you are inclined to do so, by all means send him in. thanks

FORT WORTH — Several months after skeletal remains were found in northwest Tarrant County near Lakeside, authorities are hoping a clay facial reconstruction will finally help uncover the man's identity.

Just emailed the regional case manager about Benjamin Lund. I must say I think the new reconstruction resembles him as well. Fingers crossed!

Why are they withholding what drug paraphernalia was found?

Just thought I would shed some light on MIchael Zipfel because of his medical history and proximity to the location where the remains were found.

Michael Jerome Zipfel

Missing: since 2005 from Coppell Texas
Age: 46 years old (way beyond the maximum age perimeter of 35 years therefore probably discounted as a possibility)
Height and weight: 5'9", 130-140lbs.

personally I think he is too short to have worn jeans that had a 34" inseam.

It is hard to know for sure with the variation of styles in how jeans have been worn in the past few years. Here are some examples:

Michael Zipfel was homeless and a drug addict. Someone could have given him the jeans or he may have acquired them at a Goodwill store.
