I know that this case touches my heart since i use to live on Long Island. I for one will be watching the A&E special and think this thread might be a good place to discuss it.

I am wondering if last weeks press conference had any impact on the special...and maybe the impending airing of the special pushed the police to have the press conference ...to show the public that a cable channel isn't doing a better job investigating the case than tax paid officers...

Only a minute away...we will see...

I'm watching...anyone want to discuss?

I was expecting a flurry of posts on it already.

Anyone want to speculate on what info A&E researchers will reveal that we (or LE) didn't already know about?

I was pretty surprised that MP allowed himself to be interviewed and appeared in this.

And they still have not told us exactly what was said in that 23 minute 911 call! So frustrating. Why won't they release a transcript?

A sad connection I just made, around the timeframe all these women went missing, was when the economy was collapsing and everyone I know was losing their jobs...when you're desperate, and I know I've been, it's tempting to just think "I'll do it once and have my rent money" or "I just have to give a massage naked, it's not actual sex", etc. and in the Maureen Brainerd case, She had left prostitution but was due to be evicted and went on one last call. I can absolutely understand being desperate and putting yourself at risk like that. It's too bad more people can't.

I like how they talked about each victim's families and friends.

Very sad. Very well done and respectable.

I got creeped out when they talked about the calls he made to the sister and threatened her. They think she was kept alive for a month before she was murdered.

What I was most shocked at was the mother who said that NYPD told them they had to wait 10 days to report her (I don't remember which of the victims) missing because she was a prostitute. I have never heard of that before. I know that as victims, prostitutes are thought of "less" by police because of their transient lifestyles, but still, I would think most LE have at least some sensitivity training on this because of the attention victims rights groups have paid to so-called "disposable" victims, are well aware of the high risk prostitutes take and that they can easily become victims themselves, and nowadays would be less likely to disregard them.

So it appears that there might be one main suspect who is married and his wife reported him. I would love to know more about this suspect!

Yes...they mentioned about someone's ex husband....God i hope they catch him.

There has been some one doing a lot of posting on the LISK site trying to convince people her ex is the SK. Maybe she has given out enough details that they are taking her seriously.

When is the special?

Hi Relay, It was on A&E, a 2 hour special at 11pm tonight PST. It is repeating at 1am and since I fell asleep {:maddening:} I'm going to rewatch it.

I did see the last 20 min. tho and the Chief was saying they believed Shannon's case was separate from the rest of the bodies discovered on LI.

I thought how odd, as it has just come out LE believes all were killed by the same person. I know the special was made recently { ??? as to the date } but am surprised they didn't edit it to make it more timely.

Thanks Rikk for the thread. From what I saw I thought they did an excellent job. I 'bout fainted, surfing the channels and seeing it pop up, not knowing about it. :floorlaugh:

Re-watching the special I picked up a couple of things:

* She was to be paid $450 for 2 hours of work that night. Shannon figured it was worth it financially to go even tho LI was a way to drive. So she had Pak take her there.

* When Shannon was running or making her way thru the neighborhood there was a truck that was following her, 'taunting' her as she ran. I think they inferred that was Pak.

I also saw a shot of Brewer and he reminded me of someone who could be glutonous {sp} like a fat man sitting down telling his girl how to entertain him. It must have been the angle of his face, heavy cheeked looking in a good side view

One thing i thought interesting....a few girls left without their cell phones...why would they do it??? I don't think they would do it for a new customer. Did they know him beforehand? Was he a regular customer they saw a few times???

I fell asleep the last half hour of the program but plan to watch it today on DVR.

Do I remember correctly that all the bodies were skeletonized? Would Amber's body be totally skeletonized after being in the elements for 3 months? Wouldn't the cold weather slow down the decomp process? Just curious as I am not familiar with such things.

Me too goathairjones! I just watched the program again and here's what I learned.

A woman contacted the Barthelemy's atty with suspicions that her EX hubby is the suspect. The man is involved in the technology world (I have been saying this all along, the killer is tech saavy), he has an 'elaborate' (atty's words) basement, and he was absent when the G4 went missing.

Interesting that he has an elaborate basement as many here have suspected he has a private place for his dirty work.

That was really unusual. In each of the seven calls, the guy talked about what he did to her sister ... the violence of it. What a horrifying experience for the sister! It wasn't untl the third call that police put a trace on the phone. Given the violence and dismemberment, it does seem that the guy spends a lot of time with his victims so it's possible she was alive for a month. It seems that the person doing this has a place where he can spend a lot of time with the victims.

That really surprised me too! If someone is missing, especially in that line of work, police should act quickly. If they don't respond more quickly to future reports of missing escorts, they will never find the person doing this.

I agree otto.

I watched again this morning and made some notes...

*He described acts of violence on Melissa to Amanda and became more descriptive/detailed with each call.

*He told Amanda he killed Melissa. He said 'you'll watch her body rot'.

The last comment makes me wonder if he had fantasies of abducting Amanda and holding her so she could watch Melissa's body decompose after he killed her. I have often wondered what was different about Melissa for him to make these horrid calls to Amanda. If he held her, tortured her for a period of time then perhaps this was how he gleaned personal information about her lil sis. ...like "I hear you're a half breed."

Just brainstorming and sorry to be so graphic. MOO

ETA from my notes: Melissa was recruited from a strip club. She began doing 'parties' then became more active at parties. She was battered according to her mother which required 3 trips to the hospital...one for a collapsed lung and another for head trauma. What kind of he!! did this beautiful young woman live thru? Melissa was last seen in the Bronx. She deposited 900.00 into her account and told her bf she might head to LI.

MB's bf was not interviewed for the special that I recall but here is some more info on him.

Maureen had beautiful eyes, IMO. She has 2 children. She had quit escorting but had been unable to find a job outside the industry. She was about to be evicted so turned to the internet one more time to make her rent. She had previously advertised on 'SexyJobs' dot com. she had once received an offer on My space to model in NY. She traveled to meet a client in Manhattan and her last cell signal was from LI.

Y'all help me out here. From where did MBB travel? Was it Maine? TIA

ETA from my notes: Melissa was recruited by Akeem Cruz from a strip club. She began doing 'parties' then became more active at parties. She was battered allegedly by Cruz which required 3 trips to the hospital...one for a collapsed lung and anot for head trauma. What kind of he!! did this beautiful young woman live thru? Melissa was last seen in the Bronx. She deposited 900.00 into her account and told Cruz she might head to LI.

It does sound like he was maybe trying to get access to the sister ... perhaps he kept her alive, hoping to use her to lure the sister. Maybe he had met her too. There is most likely something about this victim that was different ... maybe she fought back more, or less ... most likely less given her previous injuries and hospital trips. Maybe she was more compliant than the other victims. It's hard to say. Before the technology aspect of the murderer was mentioned, I was wondering if the guy was an isolated computer geek that delved deeper and deeper into computer *advertiser censored* until he started acting on it. Whoever this guy is, more needs to be done to locate him. He's probably still murdering women, but using a new dump site.

Wasn't it CT?

I suspect that this guy is watching the online discussions. Police should take the time to gather IP addresses of people following the case, focus on those that are in the areas where women were abducted (first case included) and where they were dumped, and follow up on them. I suspect that they could use technology to find the guy, but it would require quite a bit of work.
