http://www.wokv.com/news/news/local/st-johns-police-look-identify-remains-found-25-yea/nFtb9/

Detectives in St. Johns county are digging in to a case from more than 25 years ago.

Workers building a dock found the skeletal remains of a body about a mile north of the Crescent Beach ramp.

A UF anthropological report shows the remains may be that of a white female about 5 foot 7 with light brown to blonde hair.

Analysis of the remains showed that the victim may have been involved in some kind of auto accident prior to her death.

Anyone with information about the woman's identity is asked to contact the St. Johns county sheriff's office

Lots of possibilities within the age range. The unknown postmortem interval yields a wide look.

Penny Mollett: https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/7093/229/

Penny was supposedly dropped off on April 1, 1984 at Orlando Int'l airport but did not make the flight she was supposed to go on. The UID was found 98 miles away from this location. Penny was 5'8" and 100 pounds - the height is close to the estimate.

Gwendolyn Goode: https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/7092/237/

10322

Gwendolyn wandered off from her home in February of 1981 and was heard from according to the NamUs file in December of 1982 by unknown means. She was last located in Orlando - 98 miles away from UID location. Gwendolyn had red/auburn hair and was 5'6" - one inch off the UID estimate.

I also looked at Patricia McGill (https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/13118/234/) but her last location was close to 300 miles away. It doesn't rule out the possibility of course.

What about her? The age is a little off and the height is listed as 6' - 6'5" (a pretty big range?) but it says her children believe their mother's body was either buried on Key Biscayne or placed in the ocean on the shore of Key Biscayne. Her hair is probably too dark too but I thought it would be worth a mention.

Could the injuries listed on this Jane Doe's profile be from domestic violence? or are they only consistant with an auto accident?

I think that should be 60" to 65", but still, 5 inches is a fairly large range.

Let's suppose the age range is what the article lists and the NamUs profile lists - 15 to 50. The article also mentions that police feel the year of death is from 1980 to 1984.

Here's an interesting one.

Billie Hall: https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/1726/3?current_page=physical_characteristics

2251

Even though her given height is at most 5'3" (4 inches below UID), her circumstances of disappearance are interesting. She was heading toward Daytona Beach for a biker convention. However, she was reported missing 4 weeks later and the motor home she was in was discovered in Louisiana. Her age LKA is 24-25 years.

So she could have been in Florida. Now here's the interesting part. She had a skull plate and a "richmond screw" above her eye. She also had a tap through her skull following a traffic accident. She also had previously fractured fingers.

Thats a good find but I dont think she would have been missing long enough. The newspaper article says 1980-1984 and name us has the doe there for "years".

The postmortem interval would be in the neighborhood of 3 months for Billie Hall. Is it possible the Florida climate would make the condition of the body degrade quicker?

I am sifting through a search for 15-50 female missing persons prior to April 1985 and have found 333 records. I'll keep looking for similar surgical information.

Im not sure what the condition of the skull was (other then the pic in the newspaper article). To me it didnt look really really old but I did learn recently talking to LE on another case that there would be tissue in the skull if they had been deceased up to 12 months. Maybe it didnt have any tissue left. There was hair however but Im not sure how long hair lasts.

Unusual placement of the burr holes. A neuro or trauma surgeon would definitely remember drilling three holes in that pattern in a young woman. Maybe they should search via neuro/trauma surgeons?

The one problem with consulting medical records is that LE is prohibited by privacy laws from obtaining information from doctors regarding specific medical procedures performed on their patients, and the doctors are prohibited from releasing that info in the absence of a court order.

And the courts would never authorize a general perusal of medical records in search for an unnamed person. They would need a specific name of the person whose records they wish to review, and a good probable cause for doing so.

Seems pretty harmless (non-invasive) to send out notices to the nearby level I trauma centers (mostly for staff to see - nurses would remember this too, right Nurse marycarney? :) ) Also to the offices of the attending neuro/trauma surgeons - if the physician didn't get to it an alert staff member might remember this woman from f/u care, billing, coding, whatever.

eta - sheesh, it was quite some time ago that she was found. Maybe this isn't such a good use of resources...

you'd think the types, number and placement of the holes would be indicative of a specific operation and that they could put it out there as prior medical history of the UID. that having been said, it looks like they are comfortable with the assumption she had a serious accident.

it is interesting but there was no reference to medical hardware in the skull so I don't know where Billie's screw and plate went if the remains were her.

Here is one that was just recently listed. It doesn't mention the burr holes or injuries but it does say that she had scars behind both ears as a result of plastic surgery. They would probably have listed details if it was for more than cosmetic surgery but just in case, what do you think?

Age within range, Time frame fits, Height within range, Hair color match, only a few hours away, just listed in NamUs 01/31/2012.

When I read the description of the UID's historical injuries I instantly thought of Billie Jean Hall, and I see Sleuthster was on the same page. I tried to estimate the distance between Hall's last known location and where this body was recovered, and it is only about 40 miles [I couldn't find "Crescent Beach, FL" so I selected "Crescent City, FL", I hope they are close]

Although the postmortem estimate is years, and Hall was only missing for 3 months, I think there are general consistencies strong enough to submit this one as a possible match for our UID? Could someone do that for us?
