Breaking news: 7 dead in Grapevine apartment (dallasnews.com)
25 December 2011 02:57 PM
Grapevine police found seven people dead Christmas Day in an apartment near State Highways 121 and 360.
---
Police believe that all the victims had been shot and that the gunman was among the dead.

Police said the victims include four women and three men. Media reports that indicated children were among the victims appeared to be incorrect.

Grapevine police Sgt. Robert Eberling said the victims had not been identified. There had been no previous police calls to the apartment.
---
"We checked the surrounding apartments; we only found one occupied, and that person didn't hear anything," Eberling said.

The victims were found in a living room and adjoining kitchen of the first-floor apartment at the Lincoln Vineyards Apartment Homes, a well-maintained 220-unit complex.

That's really horrible especially on Christmas.

Such sad news. I live very near the apartment complex where the shooting occurred. From what I've heard in the local news media, the victims ranged in age from late teens to late 60s and are believed to be related. The 911 call was reported to have been made around 11:30 this morning, but the person making that call never spoke to the dispatcher. It is being reported that the shooter killed himself after fatally shooting the other six the apartment. Police are currently still on scene trying to gather information. The sergeant in scene has told reporters he has never seen anything this horrible in his 12 years with the Grapevine Police.

This is so terrible. My thoughts and prayers are with the loved ones of the victims.

GRAPEVINE, Texas—Seven people believed to be related had opened their Christmas gifts and started cleaning up the wrapping paper when they were shot to death in a Dallas-area apartment, police said Sunday.
---
Four women and three men, aged 18 to 60, were found in an adjoining kitchen and living room area when police entered the apartment shortly after 11:30 a.m., said Grapevine Police Sgt. Robert Eberling.

Two handguns were found near the bodies in the apartment that was decorated for Christmas with a tree, he added.

Curious what led to this apparent murder-suicide. Hopefully LE can identify the shooter and possibly what the motive was. What a tragedy, especially today.

:(

I hope we hear more info soon. These cases make me sick! Who wipes out their family on Christmas day? What is wrong with people????

I can't find an article on this yet, but the CBS affiliate in DFW reported on tonight's 10pm newscast that all of the victims have been identified. Authorities are apparently waiting for the Tarrant County medical examiner's office to complete the examinations of the victims before releasing their names. The crime scene is still active, and police are searching the victims' cars for clues as to a possible motive. I saw footage of a hearse in the background of the live coverage tonight. This is so shocking.

Usually family annihilators who kill all their family members are either father or adolescent son. Most likely the killer is a male and likely had problems.

This case reminds me of Ronald Gene Simmons. He killed 14 of his family members around Christmas and killed 2 at his former work place. Simmons is the deadliest family annihilator and one of the deadliest mass murderer in America.

Not too long after Simmons, there was another family annihilator in Algona, Iowa, where 6 family members of the Dreesmans were killed by Robert Dreesman.

Not a family annihilator, but worth noting there was David Burke who caused the crash of Pacific Southwest Airlines Flight 1771. He shot his former supervisor and two pilots before committing suicide. 43 people died in the airplane crash on December 7, 1987. It is one of the deadliest mass murder in American history.

December 1987 was a deadly month for mass murder.

Usually they are men, but recently there have been a few cases where women did it.

Grapevine police spokesman Sgt. Robert Eberling said the shooter showed up in the Santa outfit shortly before gunfire erupted and was a member of the family.

Grapevine police Lieutenant Todd Dearing said the victims' ages were 15, 19, 22, 55, 56, 58 and 59. The victims in their 50s were two couples, Dearing said.

The shooter was one of the older men, he said.

OMG. He wore a Santa suit? I wonder if he did that to conceal his true identity, so that he could get inside the home. Maybe he knew they would deny him entry if they knew who he was. The description of the scene is so sad. Bodies slumped beside their open presents.

Wasn't there another case where a man killed his relatives on Thanksgiving?
