Several passers-by jumped into a frigid Utah river to rescue three young children whose car had flipped and filled with water, police and one of the rescuers said Monday.
The frenzied rescue occurred about noon Saturday as slush and snowflakes began to coat U.S. 89 in and around Logan Canyon.
6 to 8 men were involved in the rescue. One of them was a former police officer who ended up shooting out the car window, when no one could get the door open, and reached in through the broken glass to get the kids out. An off-duty nurse was on hand to provide CPR.
All three kids survived! Two of the kids spent the night in ICU but were moved out the next day in fair condition.
