Man with Alzheimer's still missing

Authorities are at a loss over the disappearance of an elderly man with Alzheimer’s disease who walked away from an Omak assisted care facility on Jan. 2 and hasn’t been seen since.

Searchers on Sunday made another attempt to find Peter B. Greene, 79, this time with the help of a Spokane search team with dogs trained to find a dead body.

Keep looking

The family of Peter Greene would like to thank The Wenatchee World for the news articles recently regarding the disappearance of our father. Pete went missing from Apple Springs in Omak on Monday, Jan. 2. Although as of this writing he still has not been found, we wanted to acknowledge your quick response in getting the word out.

The outpouring of support from the community has been tremendous. We give our heartfelt appreciation to all the people who looked for our dad the first three days he was missing. It is humbling to think all of you would spend time away from your families to try and find a member of ours. We cannot thank you enough.

The case is now in the hands of the Omak Police Department and Detective Jeff Koplin. Given that Pete could not be found locally, we are inclined to think he is out of the area. He has no money and, given that he has Alzheimer’s disease, he is dependent upon others for his well-being. We ask that everyone continue to keep their eyes open and please call 911 or the Omak Police Department at (509) 826-0383 if you have any news that may help determine his whereabouts.

The family has created a Facebook page called Friends of Peter B. Greene, Missing person with Alzheimer’s. Anyone who would like to keep abreast of the ongoing search for Pete can go to facebook.com/FriendsOfPete. We have no physical evidence or leads at this time. We continue to rely on the alertness and involvement of this community and concerned citizens in areas through which Pete may be traveling. With your help, we may be able to bring this search to a happy ending.

Peter Greene is my father. He has been missing for more than 9 months now. We have no leads, and no idea where he is. We do not know if he is alive or dead. We do not know if he ever left the Omak, WA area. His body has not been found.

So sorry, can't imagine how painful this is for you.

Welcome to Websleuths Joanne65! I'm sorry that it is under the circumstances.

"Today it is 4 years since my father, Pete Greene, walked out of his assisted living home in Omak, WA some time in the late evening. He has not been seen or heard from since. He had been suffering with memory and mental decline for several years , due to Alzheimer's Disease. In the early years, he was very aware that he was experiencing mental deficits. On January 2, 2012, I had not seen my father for over a year, and had last spoken to him on the phone on his birthday in October 2011. He was not really able to have a coherent conversation, but I guess I got my happy greetings across. He had declined considerably in 2011, and I feel pretty confident that upon his heading out four years ago, he has not gone on to start a new life. I believe he was incapable of doing that. Where he is now, I do not know, but if there is a Heaven, I like to imagine that is where he is."

Friends of Peter B. Greene, Missing Person with Alzheimers

My Father's remains were found a few weeks ago. This has given us an idea of what occurred to him and confidence that there was no harm done to him. It is a sad closure, but knowing how many with missing loved ones do not get any closure, I am grateful to know. It has been a long time since I've been on WS, but it really helped in the early days. Thank you. -Joanne

@Joanne65

Thank you very much for coming back to WS, all the best for your family with this closure.

RIP Peter
