Abuse kills another Oklahoma infant

Another child is dead because she was physically abused.
Police say the 10-month-old infant showed serious signs of abuse.
They're treating the case as a homicide.

The child's mother, Arian Martin, 20, told police the baby had been sick and had been throwing up for a couple of days.
Martin and the baby's father, Michael Bruner, 25, took the child to the hospital about 10 a.m. Friday, according to the report.
Martin told police the child was diagnosed with an ear infection, given medicine and sent home.

How hard can it be. Hook mama and roomies up to a LDT. Something needs to be done to stop this horrible war on children.

So far police have not named any suspects in the death.

"At this point no arrests have been made, but officers are working very hard on it," MSgt. Knight said.

It can be very hard.
It's Oklahoma.

The unsolved cases.
The kids returned repeatedly to their abusers so they could be killed.

I can't think of another state where I can come up with so many kids from memory. (My memory sucks.)
It even takes me a while to come up with that many for Florida.
I don't quite understand... but I definitely don't expect them to solve cases.
When they make an arrest in a case people are surprised. :twocents:

Well, I know the OSBI couldn't arrest a candy bar. Wonder if the city police are any better? Guess we will see.

So far, no arrests have been made in the case.
The Department of Human Services said they could not comment on whether the family had any previous problems unless prosecutors decide to press charges in the case.

She had the most beautiful smile. How could anybody harm something so beautiful as her smile?

So I'm going through and looking up cases that I haven't heard anything about in a while.
I even searched the court records... with the mother, the boyfriend and another guy maybe connected.

All I find on (what I believe is the mother) is a paternity case and a protective order. Both for the same guy (not the boyfriend listed above.)

Both filed 2 WEEKS before Lyrik died.

If someone has been charged it doesn't appear to be the mother or either man and it hasn't made the news.

I know. :cry: What a beautiful, precious smile that sweet baby had. I just don't understand how you can beat up a tiny baby. I will never understand this.
 
Lyrik's death was ruled a homicide.

Over a year later, no one has been arrested.

Blunt force trauma: Head and abdomen.

Violent, unusual, unnatural death.

Multiple contusions: Right cheek. Left side of scalp. Back of scalp.

Hemorrhaging: Brain, abdomen and spinal cord.

Broken ribs from abuse.

Lyrik Martin was only nine months old when she died at Children's Hospital back in February of 2012. Her mother had called 911 saying she wasn't breathing at the home. And doctors said she had numerous skull fractures and other broken bones when she arrived.

But to this day, no one has been held accountable for her death.

Oklahoma City police told News 9 they understand the frustration surrounding this case. They are also frustrated. But so far, nobody has come forward with the information they need to put the person or persons responsible in jail.

Apparently there are too many choices. How incredibly sad.
 
Sad. The pics I saw on her the justice facebook page show a glowing, healthy, happy baby. Babies who are chronically abused have that awful, untrusting, vacant look.

I can't tell how old she was in the pics - most seem to have been taken before she was 4 months old. There was one with an aunt that looks like maybe 7 months old, and she's radiant.

I don't think the mother did it. I'm not sure she necessarily knows who did.

Does anyone know the timing of the doctor appt where she was diagnosed with an ear infection?
