An 8-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl were beaten so badly they had to be rushed to hospitals.

“From being spanked with cords, or at one point pliers are reported to have been used on their bodies.”

The assaults took place several times over the past two weeks.

Eli admitted to investigators that Mulamba hit the children with a belt all over their bodies up to 20 times when they misbehaved, Herion said in court.
Eli told investigators Mulamba also pinched the children with a pair of pliers, struck them with wood and an electrical cord, Herion said.

------------------------------------

Eli admitted to police that she intentionally failed to take the children to the hospital out of fear of getting the police and Child Protective Services involved, according to the EPD news release and statements read in court.

Eli has an active nursing assistant certification that was issued in September, according to information on the Washington State Department of Health's website.

OMG! This makes me sick to my stomach. I went to school in Ellensburg. Those poor babies. :(

It just never ends. Despicable

I will never understand mothers who allow boyfriends to abuse their children. I just don't get it. Your child is a part of you, a boyfriend is just that, a boyfriend. I am pleased, though, to be seeing more prosecutions of the mother for failure to protect. That used to be very rare. So, we're moving in the right direction, I think. I wish there were more ways to prevent abuse to begin with, but I think there will always be abuse. Adequate prosecution of all parties should at least help to deter some abuse.

Our DV shelters and workers are not Mandatory reporters in our county :(
I just had DV training and they told us that... I was aghast...

Yeah I noticed that after realizing how young she looked in pictures.
Then I was going to comment on it but I just got more disturbed and decided to call it a night/morning and go to bed.

Still no mugshots... I guess I will have to be happy with booking information and bail amounts?

The mother of two children who were seriously injured in late January was sentenced Monday in Kittitas County Superior Court to 10 years in prison.

Ashly Eli, 24, pleaded guilty in September to first- and second-degree criminal mistreatment of her two children — then 8 and 4 years old — for not getting them proper medical care after they were severely beaten by her then-boyfriend Reuben Denis Mulamba. The 4-year-old girl was hurt to the point she almost died from her wounds, the county prosecutor and physicians said in court.

A man convicted of seriously abusing his then-girlfriend’s young children in January was sentenced to 40 years in prison in Kittitas County Superior Court Friday.
A jury found Reuben Denis Mulamba, 27, guilty of first- and second-degree child assault and first- and third-degree criminal mistreatment Nov. 9, all with aggravated circumstances due to the children’s vulnerability. The children were 4 and 8 when they were abused in Ellensburg in January.
