Jamaica - Christina Wright, 15, St Andrew, 10 Feb 2012

Sounds like there is an epedemic in Jamaica. Here is an article posted last year :

http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/news...g-between-May-and-June--164-back-home_9156596

A total of 252 children went missing between May and June of this year, and while 164 of them have since returned home, Health Minister Rudyard Spencer believes that those still missing could become victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

"The future of our nation is facing a dark end if more and more of us are unprotected and this really seems to be the case," said Simpson. He said that he became an advocate for the children of the nation after witnessing numerous cases of child abuse.

According to statistics from the Missing Person Call Centre, which falls under the National Intelligence Bureau, of the 2,394 people reported missing for the period January to December last year, 1,680 were children. Of those children, 1,248 have returned home.

The figures also include habitual missing children. Fifty-nine people were found dead, eight of whom were children, and 424 remain missing.

I am very curious about the large number that return home. Return home from where? Are their families having to pay to have them returned?

I lived in Jamaica for a year in the mid 80's. I lived about 7 miles from where this young girl is missing. I am unfamiliar with the Red Hills area. Red Hills is just north of Kingston (South Jamaica). The Kingston area was a dangerous place when I was there. I am sure some things are better, some remain unchanged, and some are worse. Kingston is the work hub in Jamaica with 1/2 the country's population living there. The resorts are on the north side of the island.

The locals there would know what is going on. Whether they will talk about it is another story but they would know. We always knew ahead of time if something was going to go down because the locals warned us and told us what to do. They frequently had island blackouts to protest the rise of the cost of gas. We were always told in advance it was going to happen and how to prepare such as filling bathtubs, sinks, pots, and pans with water and stocking up on canned goods and batteries. Being in the center of the ocean with no lights or water is a real treat.

The fact that she had on a school uniform is a positive sign. So many children there are used to beg for money or forced to sell things in the streets. So many people there are just so poor, dirt poor. When I was there those working a 40 hr week made about $20 US if making minimum wages.

Looks like that is double now. Rate exchange at this time is $1.00J = $.01US. http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20101003/business/business2.html

Beautiful country with some lovely people but so many bad things.

This is a good read about Jamaica http://debate.uvm.edu/dreadlibrary/kilian.html

She could be anywhere from at a friend's to taken to another island. I hope she is just at a friend's house.

As I have read more about the missing people in Jamaica, I am not certain if we will find out when/if she is found.

I find the statistics staggering. There are so many children missing. The one article infers that the sex trade is very rampant in Jamaica.

The police say 10-year-old Doran Ricketts of a Mark Lane address in Kingston has been reported missing from home since Sunday, January 8.

This is just terrible. They are taking children almost every day. Most are being taken from their homes but I saw Glenhope Place of Safety (gov't operated child care institution) listed as last place seen a lot also. Other children homes were listed too.

Note that Christina Wright was also reported missing in Jan. and it shows "found" on the link above. It shows her missing again in Feb.

Miss Dryden was arrested at the US Embassy in Kingston last week after she tried to obtain a visa for a 16-year-old girl, she claimed she had adopted.

However, investigators later found out the adoption was illegal and the woman has been linked to scores of other missing children.

The cops say she admitted to collecting $60,000 per child.

It is so scary that so many young people go missing without any clues, etc. So sad and so scary.
