Police say they arrived on the scene here after getting a call that the man had threatened neighbors with a gun.

Peters, who is on the SWAT team, was one of six officers who responded to the call, Clark said. The neighbors told officers that the man was walking with a toddler in his arms when an argument escalated and the man pulled out the gun. The man then went inside with the infant, police said.

Well, at least it didn't end up like Josh Powell.

If people with weapons are not afraid of police, who they know have weapons, then they will do anything to anyone.
 
I am afraid there will be political fallout because he was holding the infant when they shot him. But he was holding the infant when he threatened the neighbors with a gun. He was holding the infant when he walked out of the house, knowing LE was there and they had guns. If he was allowed to go back into that house, LE couldn't have seen him, couldn't have rushed the house, could not have stopped him from harming the child.

I do think he was holding the child as a protection, thinking no one would harm him out of fear of harming the child. So he more or less was holding the child hostage.
 
It happened Tuesday night after police say the man threatened his neighbors with a gun, but so far, police have not located the gun, and it's unknown at this point whether the man was actually armed.

We have also learned the officer who fired has been involved in six other shootings, all but one of them deadly, and cleared of any wrongdoing in those incidents.

Now that is very very odd. This is a quote from the AZ Central article:

A search warrant recovered a loaded pistol "a few feet from where the suspect fell inside the residence," Clark said. "It was wedged between the arm and cushion of a chair a few feet away from where he fell." It is the same pistol believed to have been used to threaten neighbors, he said. A loaded shotgun also was found near a chair a few feet from the pistol,

Though I think they did determine that what he was carrying was a cell phone, not a gun.
 
This story was in my local news even though I live in East Texas, but it really got my attention when I read about his other shootings. That's wild! So many LE go through their whole career without even pullng their guns and this guy has shot and killed six "suspects" now? Something's not right............
 
I agree that I was a little shocked about 6 officer shootings. But I read over the shootings and they actually sounded legit. It is tough to learn that the suspect in this case wasn't armed when he was shot. But I can't really find fault with the LE officer for that either.

Witnesses placed a gun in the man's hand previously. The man confronted LE while holding a child in his hands. The man failed to follow LE instructions. The officer believed he saw something in the man's hand. The officer had only fractions of a second to make judgements about how much danger the community and the people were in and to determine the best way to relieve that danger.
 
In his next three shootings, he killed: a disbarred lawyer who was pacing a canal with a shotgun; a suspect who reportedly tried to attack another officer with a pipe; and a gunman holding a hostage in a supermarket.

The Scottsdale Police Department had to settle with the victim's family out of court in the officer's fifth shooting after Peters and others cut the power to a suspect's home and shot him dead when he came out with a gun to investigate.

Several officers called for him to come outside, but Loxas refused, Rodbell said. Peters shot Loxas in the head with a scope-equipped rifle from about 15 yards away when he leaned over and reached inside the house.

Loxas died instantly, and fell with the baby in his arms, police spokesman Sgt. Mark Clark said. The baby was unhurt.

Police said a loaded handgun was tucked into the side of a chair a few feet inside the door, and a shotgun was also found nearby.

Rodbell promised a complete investigation into the shooting.

I agree...the shooter is in the SWAT team after all and they only handle these crisis situations with potential danger to the public...much rather he take this man out, who had shown he was a threat, than have him shoot at the officers or kill the child. Maybe the team has this guy do most of the shooting because he is the best shot?

In that instance the man had shot at the police and they shot back:

Kevin Hutchings had gotten into a fight with a close friend in August 2006 and then left and drove to his house in Mesa, about 10 miles to the south. Officers had the friend call Hutchings at his house, and Scottsdale police went there, Leonard said.

While he was talking on the phone, police cut the power to flush him out, Hutchings came outside with a gun to investigate. Police said he shot at officers and they shot back. Leonard said officers never announced their presence. The family accepted a $75,000 settlement from the city.

The man was the infant's grandfather, not father, and neighbors said he was threatening them with a gun. He was arrested in 2010 for "exposing a gun." I'm waiting to see what the investigation shows.
