Best I can tell from available information this is the area remains were found:

I think it's the woods to the left (click on directional arrows).

(I'm hoping Bessie will correct if necessary...it is 3:30am for me afterall!)

Skeletal remains found off Newberry Road

Investigators will be combing a site off Newberry Road where a set of skeletal remains were found by a homeless couple Tuesday evening. Officials said it was well after sunset when the remains were discovered and so they planned to return to the scene Wednesday to recover any evidence they find there.

It probably is that set of woods on the left. I haven't been to that side of town today so I can't say for certain. Deductive reasoning though. Across the street there is a bunch of shops and not a lot of woods (immediately off the road.) I suppose I can take a drive over there.

Yes, that is the location. I took some pictures (not very good ones) if anyone wants me to upload them. It is right at the entrance to the West Hills subdivision which (according to this website) was build between 1970 and 1994. (although some homes were built as far back as the 40's.) This part of town is "newer" having not really been built up until after the mall was built in 1978.

What I find interesting about this is that it doesn't seem like an idea dumping spot (if this was somewhat recent) because that stretch of woods is only a few hundred feet at the most. There is a home right next to it and it is off one of the busiest roads in town.

I was just about to put this here.Thank you for posting this.I am following this.

I think that would be great, Alphaville. And please keep us posted with any updates from your local news. Thanks!

This is the only update I've found so far. A LEO on the scene thinks the remains have been there a very long time and could not determine race or gender by sight.

“These remains had been there so long that it was not possible to tell if this person had been male or female or their race,” said Alachua County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Todd Kelly.

Considering what Alphaville said about the area being heavily populated, with most of the development occurring post-1978, it makes sense that the body was placed there 25-35 years ago, or even earlier.

Delores Stanton went missing in 1976 when she left her apartment one day to hitchhike a ride to class at Santa Fe Community College. I read a post on another site that said she was living in the 300 block of NW 14th St. I can't find confirmation of the address, only an article that states "northwest Gainesville". If the address is accurate, the site of the remains is almost exactly halfway between her home and school.

DELORES JEAN STANTON: In April 1976, the 21-year-old disappeared after she left her home in northwest Gainesville to hitchhike to class at Santa Fe Community College. Police believe she met with foul play.

The article mentions others missing from the Gainesville area.

Her case stuck out to me the most.

There hasn't been any more updates but I keep checking.

My thoughts are with Juliann Marie Spates family.I think they knew in their heart it was her. They can now have closure.
