Investigators: Body found could be that of missing Pa. man, LANCASTER COUNTY, S.C.

Investigators in Lancaster County are trying to determine whether a body found Monday night could be that of a missing elderly man.

Joseph Devivo, 87, disappeared last month after a caregiver dropped him at his home in northeast Pennsylvania.

Police found his car in the Charlotte area but no sign of Devivo.

Investigators think the body found Monday night could be that of Devivo. An autopsy has not been done yet.

Inmate leads police to dumped body

LANCASTER, S.C. -- A body found Monday in Lancaster County might be connected to a missing person case in Pennsylvania, officials say.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says Rico Herbert, 31, who is jailed in Charlotte, led authorities to human remains at the end of a long driveway on Mount Carmel Road. Law enforcement officials are working to determine if the body is that of Joseph Devivo, 87, of Stroud Township, Pa

From April 2014:

Rico Herbert knew Joseph DeVivo, an 87-year-old retired East Stroudsburg teacher. He did odd jobs around his Stroud Township home, washing his car or doing yard work. Because of his familiarity, Herbert regularly burglarized the home to take money... In February 2012, he was looking for money, when DeVivo came downstairs and confronted him. The two men argued and Herbert said he pulled DeVivo's shirt over his head to calm him down and stop him from yelling, but instead killed him. "In essence, we believe he suffocated him," Waldron said.

Herbert was due to stand trial Monday for DeVivo's murder, but he avoided the death penalty by pleading guilty to third-degree murder and other charges in Monroe County Court. Herbert, 33, was sentenced to 31 to 62 years in state prison...

Police said Herbert killed DeVivo, who went missing Feb. 23, 2012, and dumped his body in South Carolina. Herbert was arrested two days later in Charlotte, N.C., with DeVivo's car and wallet. On March 12, Herbert led police to DeVivo's remains in a rural area near Health Springs, S.C.
