I searched and did not find any threads about this case. An unarmed 54-year old woman, Patricia Cook, was shot dead by a police officer on February 9. Initially the PD claimed the officer's arm was stuck in her window and that she dragged him with her car. But an eye witness came forward who said that's not what he saw.

There are quite a few links if you google "Patricia Cook Culpeper." Here are a few:

I live in Virginia and they do have a tendency to brush police shootings under the rug. Years ago a young man, IIRC still in his teens, was shot dead by an off-duty police officer and there were no charges pressed in that case either.

(Mods: I am a novice thread-starter so if I've done anything wrong, please remove or merge.)

wow. well this is certainly disturbing!

That's great news. I'm glad GC is not letting them sweep Patricia's death under the rug.

I saw an interview with him. He was very confused and heartbroken. I don't think he knows what to make of this whole thing.

I hope he gets the answers he's looking for. Poor guy.:(

Many are upset by the town’s handling of the Patricia Cook shooting death by a Town of Culpeper police officer. The officer’s name has yet to be released and the Virginia State Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding Cook’s Feb. 9 death.
It has been more than a month since Cook’s death and the community deserves answers. We’re sure the State Police are simply doing a thorough investigation into the case, but the longer the townsfolk are not informed, the more misinformation is spreading through our neighborhoods.

A Police officer shot six times and hitting her 4 times in the back an Unarmed 54 year old Sunday School teacher Patricia Cook killing her in broad daylight in the middle of town by a Sunday school parking lot while she was driving away in Culpeper, VA. The officer reported that his arm was caught in her window and that he was dragged. Two eye witness said that isn’t what happened. Close to 800 people have signed a petition asking for justice to be severed for this shooting of Patricia Cook. The officials are handling this behind closed doors and we are asking for a public court hearing. Please help if you feel that a life taken should be handled in the open to make sure that things are handled fairly. Here is the petition site with a facebook page and a Washington DC news channel doing a story on it. We all know that cops have a very hard job and do not want to bash them but just to make sure that this is handled fairly in a Court of Law. Thanks!

The entire thing is strange. The husband doesn't know why she was in the school parking lot. Someone called in a suspicious person who was walking around the building- do they have a recording of this? The police car camera was broken-was the camera taken and was there an Independent party that can verify this and/or was there a written work order before the date stating it was broken? Was there an autopsy and what were the angles and distances of the shots? Is there photo evidence of injury to his arm/person from being caught and dragged? Did the officer involved work the scene? Did witnesses see him moving about the scene after other officers arrived? Is there a recording of his call for backup/help? Is there a recording of him contacting the dispatcher to notify them he was on site and getting out of his vehicle? Officer changed his name legally a few years ago-was there a complete background check? A lot of questions need to be answered. Moo

The cop who shot Patricia has been indicted for murder. Unbelievably good news as it is so rare for Virginia to hold an officer accountable for a civilian's death.

An 11-member special investigative jury handed down four indictments including murder against the Culpeper Town police officer who shot and killed an unarmed 54-year-old woman in February, nearly four months ago in downtown Culpeper.

Daniel Wayne Harmon-Wright, formerly Daniel Wayne Sullivan, of Gainesville faces murder, malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle, malicious shooting into an occupied vehicle resulting in a death and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the shooting death of Patricia Ann Cook on Feb. 9 on North East Street.

Fauquier County Commonwealth’s Attorney James Fisher made the announcement Tuesday evening at the Virginia State Police Culpeper Division 2 Headquarters.
Harmon-Wright, 32, who turned himself in to state police without incident Tuesday, is being held at the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center.

He’s due to appear in Culpeper County Circuit Court for a hearing on June 8.

Harmon-Wright’s mother, Bethany P. Sullivan, 55, of Orange, a former administrative secretary to the Culpeper chief of police, also faces three counts of uttering and three counts of forgery of public documents.

Given what we've been seeing lately in the news you have to wonder what is happening with LE in this country. Is it lack of training, lack of funding, what? Far too often many of them act like thugs, quick to whip out the pepper spray, tasers and in this case their revolvers.

Having read the stories this whole thing seems like the case of a whack-job cop who overreacted and of a frightened mother who was just trying to get away from him.
