A 29-year-old Washington state woman was charged Monday with first-degree child abuse after doctors said she nearly blinded her toddler daughter by replacing the child’s antibiotic eyedrops with household bleach.

Jennifer Lynn Mothershead of Buckley, Wash., was arrested Friday after a nearly yearlong investigation that revealed that she inflicted severe eye and head injuries on the child, court documents show. She was held by Pierce County officials in lieu of $150,000 bail.

She must have a mental disorder or something there is no good reason why you would one day just wake up and decide to put bleach in your babies eyes.

I always believe an eye for an eye in situations like this.....pour bleach in her eyes see how she likes it.

This didn't strike me as MBP either. She must be one evil b***** to do that to her baby. Even said she had to swaddle the baby to do the drops. Ya think? Poor little thing must have been in so much pain.

Munchausen Syndrome and Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy (MSBP) is a form of narcissism. It is also correlated with bullying.

Actually, I can see it being MBP. The only thing is, this chick used bleach when there are so many other things she could have used to irritate the kids eyes and get attention for herself.

More than a year after a Buckley woman was arrested on suspicion of pouring bleach into her then 14-month-old daughter's eyes, the now 3-year-old girl is adjusting and doing well overall, but continues to have bad days.

A family member, who didn't want their name to be used because they didn't want to jeopardize the pending court case, told Patch this week that Jennifer L. Mothershead's daughter still has trouble with light and can't go outside. She spends most of her time indoors with the blinds drawn and when she needs to go somewhere, has to sit in the car with a blanket over her head.

November 2013 - sentenced to 40 years.

Asked about the eye infection, the mother said her daughter's eyes had been swollen shut for about four weeks and that the issue began two months prior when her daughter got a scratch on her eye while playing in a barn, documents said.

She said her daughter was given antibiotics and eye drops for the infection, and that she was primary person to put them in her daughter's eyes as her husband had just recently filed for divorce. Court documents say she wanted the father's visits severely limited because of the baby's fragile eye condition and she was the main caregiver.

Mothershead told authorities that her daughter was sleeping up to 22 hours a day because exposure to sunlight had become extremely painful to her eyes.

Mothershead admitted that she had given the child eye medication. She also said her daughter was a “fighter” when it came to the eye drops. Mothershead did not explain how the girl attained the initial head injury, and the child was taken into protective custody...

"One of the things our detectives were concerned about was a lack of concern for the toddler from the mom and we started looking into it,” Pierce County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Ed Troyer said in April 2012

While a motive remains unclear, the prosecutor said Mothershead, who was recently separated from her husband, had been receiving help from friends.
"By torturing her child, she was able to get both financial support and sympathy for herself," Lindquist told MyNorthwest.com.
