Circumstances of Disappearance
Andrea Hayslette was last seen April 24 at her apartment in Deer Track Villas near Surfside Beach, where she lived with her husband and two young children. She had been married for four years at the time of her disappearance. Her van was found in front of her apartment. Some belongings, such as a suitcase and toothbrush, were missing. Her pocketbook and purse were missing; her automatic-teller machine card was found in the apartment. She left behind her Dodge van and Chevrolet truck, her jewelry and, according to her mother, every piece of clothing except what she had on the day of her disappearance.
Her parents reported her missing to the police on on April 28, 1993 because they had not seen or heard from their daughter since she returned home from a trip to Florida. Family members said it would be uncharacteristic for Hayslette to leave her children behind. Andrea Hayslette is described as a devoted mother with strong ties to her parents. There is no evidence to indicate Andrea Hayslette left the area on her own.
Hayslette also missed final exams at Coastal Carolina College, where she was a straight-A student. She was also doing an internship in the college's public relations office.
Hayslette's bank card and credit card have not been used since her disappearance, and her paycheck at Coastal Carolina University, where she worked part-time, was never picked up.
Hayslette grew up in Rockville, Maryland and attended East Tennessee State University. Originally an art major, she switched her major to marketing and communications. Andrea left Maryland and moved in with her parents a few months after they relocated to the Murrells Inlet area.
In 1996 Horry County police charged Hayslette's husband with murder in the disappearance of his wife. Her body has never been found, but investigators believe she was murdered. He has denied any wrongdoing in his wife's disappearance. On February 22, 1995, he was convicted of forging his wife's name on her vehicle title when he sold her pickup truck. On April 7, 1995, he was sentenced to one to 10 years for the charge. The murder charge was dropped in 1997 for lack of evidence.
Foul play is suspected.
