NC - Tommy Webb, 35, & Denika Jones, 26, Fayetteville, May 2012

The next day, someone deliberately set fire to a couch inside the house, police said. It's unclear if the fire is related to Webb's death.

Jones has not been seen since her boyfriend was found dead. When asked if she is a suspect, police would only say that the case is in the early stage of the investigation and that they want to find her and make sure she is OK.

This is an odd story. When we hear of murders and one person missing, we often then hear that the missing person is behind the murders. Somehow, this doesn't seem like that sort of situation ... although it would be helpful to know more background information. If there was abuse in the relationship, then it could have been a situation where the missing person was defending herself and then fled the scene out of fear.

What happens to women that fear for their lives and kill a spouse or partner in NC? Are they convicted as murderers or is there a consideration for the big picture?

So sad. I really hope investigators are able to uncover exactly what happened.

"Me and my daughter, we did talk about that incident, and that was one of the reasons why I was afraid for her and wanted her to move out of the area," her father Frederick Smith said at a news conference Wednesday.
