Pre-med student, 22, fell to her death at Las Vegas hotel after
suffering paranoid delusions from ecstasy taken at rave (Daily Mail)
An aspiring doctor fell to her death from a Las Vegas hotel after having drug-induced hallucinations at a music festival.

Emily McCaughan, 22, who attended the University of Arizona, died last week after falling from her room on the 27th floor to a third-floor roof.

Family members said that the young woman had suffered paranoid delusions after taking ecstasy at the three-day Electric Daisy Carnival - a festival which drew 320,000 people before ending last Monday morning.

Her friends told the paper she had become distressed after taking the drug on Sunday evening.

She had believed that a 'man was following her' and wanted to go back to the hotel on the Vegas strip, so her friends put her in a passing cab.

Back at the hotel, the 22-year-old sent a series of Facebook messages asking for help.

Her body was found after it was believed she had squeezed between the window bars of her hotel room.

I dunno, guess I read too much on here but I can't help being a bit suspicious, but then I don't know much about all the drugs that are out there. I do hope this is thoroughly investigated.
Poor darlin'.......and , here we go again, I feel so badly for her family and friends.

Not exactly the same but Morgan Harrington immediately came to mind.
 
In a Vegas hotel there will be plenty of cameras which will show if she was alone entering her room etc...there should not be any doubt as to what happened once they view those. JMO
 
Pre-med? Taking random pills to get high? Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it?

And the fact that her 'friends' put her - alone - into a taxi is just plain sad.
 
If she were my friend, I would not have let her take a taxi alone to a hotel when in an obviously delusional condition from the Ecstasy. Unfortunately, I'm imagining her friends weren't in much of a condition to help her if they were taking drugs as well.

Such a tragic loss. I can only hope her friends and many others will learn from this.
 
Her friends should have never let her go back to the hotel alone.
 
My 20 yr old DD was actually staying at Circus Circus with her friends and they went to this rave concert. I read her this article and they did not hear anything about it and they were there. Odd.

But she said the same thing---why did her friends put her in a cab by herself and send her back to the hotel? Poor decision on their part, imo.

How very sad that she was left alone and scared and lost her way that night. Her parents and friends must be devestated.

I was in Las Vegas that week for work, and saw hundreds of people who were attending this show in my hotel (not circus circus). Late one night, one of my male coworkers found a group of young women in the hallway, with one completely passed out on the ground, and the others trying to drag her into their room. They asked my coworker to help them get her inside their room - he said no way, went into his room, called for parametics, and then went back out to help them revive her. The young woman had to be taken by ambulance to the hospital.

I was young once, and don't know how I or my friends survived some of our ecapades, but for the Grace of God I say.

I did not hear about this incident on any news station while I was there either - and the concert was on the news constantly. Circus Circus is an old hotel and most, if not all, new hotels in Las Vegas don't have balconies or windows that open due to the risk of people doing something like this.
 
I have been to Circus Circus but have not stayed there. I dont remember there being balcony's so I googled the hotel and it appears there are windows not balconys. Someone correct me if Im wrong. According to the story she squeezed through bars on a window. So the hotel has bars on the windows to probably keep people from opening and going out the window I would imagine.

It's bizzare to me that she would go to that length to squeeze through bars to get out of the window and jump.

I'm pretty sure her friends will regret their decision for the rest of their lives but they were probably under the influence as well

as for a lawsuit, she took the drugs & I don't see how her family can sue when their adult daughter made a decision that cost her life

I know they're angry but their anger is displaced IMO
 
How sad for this group of young people. I haven't been to that end of the strip in years, but got married ( 20+ years ago) at Circus Circus. We did not have a balconey.
We stayed at Harrahs last year and had a mini balcony overlooking the pool. It was so
small you couldn't even put a chair on it. Bet things change there now. Someone could have easily fallen from it. Legal problems waiting to happen imo.

Drugs these days seem way too scarey. I feel so bad for her family and friends.
