GUILTY TX - Brandy Cerny, 28, & 2 sons shot to death, Laredo, 19 June 2012

The mother, Brandy Cerny, was found dead in her hometown of El Campo, Texas. Unaware of the possible murder connection, Laredo P.D. would go to the hotel to speak Bluntson.

"When officers knocked on the door they were met with gunfire through the door. The decision was made to clear the hotel," said Baeza. The hotel was evacuated and guests were forced out of the building... "The officers at one point heard shots through the door inside the room and, because of the safety of the boys, the door was breached and found the suspect and the two boys critically wounded"...

Jury selection is set for October 19th.

Jury selection continues for Demond Bluntson murder trial

It will take a couple of weeks, but jury selection is still underway for Demond Bluntson - the man accused of shooting and killing two small children at a Laredo hotel in 2012.

The District Attorney's Office did say they were looking for the death penalty in this case. The first since 1991.

There is no word yet when all the jurors will be chosen, but the trial is expected to last five weeks

Opening statements in the capital murder trial of Demond Bluntson began this morning in the 49th District Court before Judge Joe Lopez.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.

Bluntson is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend’s two sons in June 2012 inside a hotel room at the then-Holiday Inn, 800 Garden St. Bluntson’s biological son, Devian, 1, died at the scene. Devian’s half-brother, Jayden Thompson, 6, died after being airlifted to a San Antonio hospital.

The second day of the capital murder trial, for which the prosecution is seeking the death penalty, was not unlike the first, with regard to Bluntson’s lack of courtroom decorum.

Bluntson continued to interject during witness testimony heard Tuesday, accusing both Reyes and the Webb County District Attorney’s Office of being liars.

Lopez administered clear instructions to Bluntson, telling him he cannot interrupt the proceedings.

However, Lopez’s words fell on deaf ears, and Bluntson’s accusations continued. For the second time during the trial, Lopez had Bluntson removed from the courtroom.

A Laredo jury finds Demond Bluntson guilty of capital murder. It took the jury three hours to reach the verdict Thursday afternoon.

They found that there was sufficient evidence to convict Bluntson of murder, in the death of six-year-old Jaden Allen Thompson and 21 month old Deveon Bluntson.

The district attorney began calling witnesses to testify against Bluntson in their attempt to convince jurors that he deserves to be executed for his crime.

A Webb County jury on Thursday sentenced someone to death row for the first time in almost 25 years. It was the second death sentence of the year in Texas.

A Webb County jury earlier this month sentenced an El Campo man to death for the slaying of two children.Demond Bluntson, 40, will likely next stand trial in Wharton County for the death of the children's mother, Brandy Cerny.

"I don't expect it to be this calendar year, at the very least," Wharton County District Attorney Ross Kurtz wrote via email Tuesday. "Once this year is over and we re-evaluate the other pending major felonies, I will have a better idea of what timeline the state will be pursuing."
