The family of a 28-year-old Ottawa man who went missing over the weekend is trying to find out where he is and whether or not he is OK.

Fouad Nayel was last seen Sunday morning before he left for Petawawa to see some friends, according to his cousin, Adam Mounzer.

Nayel was supposed to return to Ottawa for a Father’s Day dinner that evening, but never showed up and nobody knows why, Mounzer said.

He said there have been no calls made on Nayel’s cell phone and no activity on his debit card since he went missing. Mounzer is taking to Facebook to ask if anyone has any tips.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the missing persons unit at 613-236-1222, extension 3726 or
Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477 (TIPS).

Family searching for missing Barrhaven man
Updated: Sunday, June 24, 2012 08:43 PM EDT

Fouad and his mother have a joint bank account.

His debit card hasn’t been touched, Nayel said.

The car hasn’t been found, she said.

Now his family, frustrated with police, is handling the quest themselves.

“We’ve been searching everyday for him,” said his mother, Nicole Nayel, in tears.

“I know he was coming back.”

The 28-year-old Barrhaven man left for Petawawa on June 17, telling his cousin Adam he’d return in a few hours.

The family had plans for Father’s Day dinner: Chinese food, their annual tradition.

But he vanished.

“It’s a nightmare. I don’t know when it’s going to end,” Nayel said.

“I haven’t slept. I haven’t ate. I haven’t done anything. I’m just a walking body.”

The distraught mother was critical of how police are handling the case. Nayel is known to police. A family friend, though, is a local cop.

“He’s been the biggest help,” she said.

The family is so rattled, they’re all taking time off work, she said.

“Nobody can focus. Nobody can do anything.”

Except search tirelessly.

At least 15 friends and family members hit the road again Sunday morning.

Given they haven’t a clue who Fouad went to visit — or where — the hunt has been draining.
