found this UID at Namus.

Asian female, 30-50, 5'3" 80 lbs found on July 24, 1997 in Lake Norman, NC. black hair with some gray. DNA and dentals available.

per Doe estimated date of death was between 7/15-7/21

there are not too many missing Asian women at that time but this one caught my attention, Catherine Chiang from the Bronx. Catherine was 58 y.o. around 5'7" and 110 lbs.

was last seen at her apt in the Bronx on June 6, 1997, just a month and a half before this UID was found in NC.

they have dentals for Catherine so a comparison should be fairly easy.

the timing is good, height off by 4" as is weight by 30 lbs but I am having a hard time believing the UID really weighed only 80 lbs.

the facial comparison struck me as close.

not sure how she would have gotten from the Bronx to NC but stranger things have happened.

Based on the height and weight I would think it's possible the UID is Yuen Kwang Wong. 5'3", 70 lbs. Not sure how accurate those stats are considering how skinny that would be. Negatives: the DLC of November 25, 1995 might be too early, the distance from NY to NC is significant, and the age of 57 is slightly above range.

Now they say this victim was likely Hispanic but the sketch still looks like an Asian woman to me.

Seems they're not certain about ethnicity anymore, but it might be worth pointing out that Catawba county and several surrounding counties have fairly well established Hmong communities.
