Detective Jack McDermott promised 17 year old Anjeanette Maldonado's family he would find out who murdered the beautiful teen before he retired.

Anjeanette lefto for school on September 30, 1996 and her body was found on a lot on Hope Street two days later.

In prison presently in Florida is Rafael Crespo aged 45 years old serving 25 for rape. His release was for 2015. Thanks to DNA the transient has been found to be the alleged murder who took this gorgeous girl from her loving family and cut her life short.

Prayers for Anjeanette's family as they have suffered so. May they know people remember their beautiful daughter, and sister even if just from TV and newspapers. I recall weeping seeing this pretty girl on TV and I recall my own dad who was a Philly Detective saying how outraged they all were.

Special prayers and thanks to Detective Jack McDermott and his squad for never giving up.

RIP Anjeanette.

From your link:

"Maldonado’s family, who commemorated each of her birthdays, now says with the arrest, she will have peace...........

McDermott, they say, kept his promise."

Fantastic news that the detective was able to solve this murder and give the victim and her family some peace of mind...good work!!

From September 2015:

http://articles.philly.com/2015-09-11/news/66439023_1_rafael-crespo-prostitute-anjeanette-maldonado

When a monster snatched her beautiful teenage daughter off the street, raped, beat and strangled her and then left her like trash in a vacant Kensington house, a homicide investigator warned 17-year-old Anjeanette Maldonado's mourning family that bringing her killer to justice could take time.

"The first detective told me: 'You're going to have to wait. You have to be patient.' I thought he meant next week," Anjeanette's mother Paulette Smith, 59, said...

Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Minehart yesterday found Rafael Crespo, 49, guilty of first-degree murder, rape, corruption of minors and related offenses for the Sept. 30, 1996, slaying of Anjeanette, an aspiring artist and student at the Franklin Learning Center.

Still awaiting sentencing, per court docket:

From last month:

http://articles.philly.com/2016-01-16/news/69796761_1_rafael-crespo-dna-evidence-dna-index-system

More than 19 years after the body of a Kensington teenager was found in an abandoned house, the man DNA evidence fingered as her killer was sentenced to life in prison without parole Thursday by a Philadelphia judge.

Rafael Crespo said nothing before Common Pleas Court Judge Jeffrey P. Minehart imposed the mandatory life term for first-degree murder, and tacked on 15 to 30 years more for the sexual-assault charges involving the Sept. 30, 1996, disappearance, rape, and strangling of 17-year-old Anjeanette Maldonado.

Thank goodness he was convicted and given a fair sentence. It's a shame that the wheels of justice seem to move so slowly..
