A dozen houses near Rockyford School on the Pine Ridge reservation are worse for wear after they weathered high winds and hail that ripped through the area Saturday night.
Wood and mobile homes are pockmarked with almost 500 holes in their siding as a result of the storm, Wayne Weston, emergency manager for the Oglala Sioux Tribe, said Tuesday
"Holes were blasted out," Weston said. "The sides were just ravaged by the hail."
Residents are still living in the homes. Weston hopes to have the damage repaired before winter sets in. Let's hope they are fixed by winter; it gets to -25 with a wind chill of -45 degrees there. Rockyford is a tiny community and this is almost half of the homes there.
