(01/07/05 - HICKORY, NC) One man's trash is another man's treasure, and treasure is what two sanitation workers found while collecting trash in Hickory, North Carolina.
Todd Little and Edwin Workman were working their garbage collection route on New Year's Eve when Workman noticed a bulge in the pocket of a discarded shirt. In it, he found 51 $100 bills folded in a money clip.
That's more than two months take-home pay, even when both men's salaries are combined.
The two knew they should return the cash. At the end of their work day, they drove back to the house it came from.
The woman who answered the door says she had cleaned out a closet and thrown away some of her husband's old clothes, not knowing about the cash in the pocket.
The men gave her the money and the bag of clothes, in case there was more money in them.
