WARRENSBURG, MO (KCTV) -
Authorities are investigating the death of 25-year-old bar owner who was killed Saturday night in an apparent shooting.

Blaine Whitworth's friends and colleagues on Pine Street heard the news just after 10 p.m. that he had been shot and killed. About 30 minutes earlier, police responded to a shots fired call in the 1000 block of Sunflower. When officers arrived they found Whitworth dead at the scene.

Such a shame to lose a young man at 25 who seemed to be a go-getter, owning 2 businesses at that age.

The article didn't make clear to me where the shooting happened, at one of his bars, at home or somewhere else? Were there any witnesses and are there suspects? From the info given he was well liked....

My off the cuff theory -- thugs robbed him when he came home assuming he carried cash and it was more than one, and they talk. They brag to their friends and they squeal on each other the moment one of them is dragged in.

Unless the victim had a complicated social life, LEO will nail the the killers.

Sonya, there are rumors that someone followed him home from the bar. Many people are claiming that he had an argument with a man before he left for home. I also saw on the news Sunday night an interview with Blaine's neighbor where he stated that Blaine had been renting out a room in his home to a homeless man. I found that to be interesting but haven't heard anymore about it.

Authorities seem to have a person of interest that they're questioning now. Not a lot of info though--

Whitworth was the city's first homicide victim since 2009.

The arrests come less than 24 hours after the Missouri Rural Major Case Squad, consisting of about 34 officers from several agencies, met up in central Missouri on Tuesday, following up on 69 leads on the first day of the investigation.

Singletary worked as a bouncer in one of Blaine's bars. Singletary and Abid were room mates.

Rumors circulated last week that Ziyad T. Abid was going to bond out of Johnson County Detention Center and be deported to his home country of Saudi Arabia.
At a bond hearing April 9, Judge R. Michael Wagner ruled that after reviewing the file, he amended Judge Cook’s prior order concerning bond and ordered no bond set in this case.

A Kansas City man has been sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of a popular western Missouri bar owner...

Singletary had been fired as a bouncer at one of Whitworth’s bars a week before the killing. He told police that his roommate — a college student from Saudi Arabia — had paid him to kill Whitworth. But he testified at his trial that he did not commit the crime.

The roommate was jailed for nearly a year before charges against him were dropped.
