Brian Canady is charged with three counts of murder, assault and criminal mistreatment.

The child's mother, Jessica Dutro-Boggess, is charged with manslaughter one and criminal mistreatment.

The victim's three siblings are presently under the care of the Oregon Department of Human Services.
 
That is so very sad. That poor baby. :( I wonder if the other children were abused as well or if he was the one singled out?

Eta: I'm assuming the 3 others were children when they stated "the family of 6" but I didn't see any further information on that.

An Oregon woman on trial for the murder of her 4-year-old son believed the boy was gay and that was a motive behind the deadly beatings, a prosecutor said.

Jessica Dutro's son Zachary died in August 2012, days after collapsing at the homeless shelter where his family was living southwest of Portland.

Washington County Judge Don Letourneau ruled Wednesday, after jurors were released for the day, that a Facebook message from Dutro to her boyfriend was admissible evidence, The Oregonian newspaper reported (http://is.gd/rfralf ).

This child was at a homeless shelter and no staff or anything seen the child being beat? This poor child didn't know nothing about what gay even meant. :(

She did not kill him because she thought he was gay. She killed him because she is a monster. I would bet that he was beat all the time for many things. She just picked that. It would not make a difference why she killed him.. She killed him because she is a monster.

One such parent was Oregon mom, Jessica Dutro. Her little boy Zachary was not reacting to things in as masculine a way as she expected. She thought he would become gay. “He walks like it and talks like it. Ugh.” She wrote to boyfriend, Brian Canady, and she instructed Brian to “work on him.” They both worked on Zachary. Until Zachary was dead.

Jessica Dutro is an abusive woman. Her behavior towards her other kids shows that fact. The blend of homophobia with those abusive tendencies made her deadly.

Canady pleaded guilty to manslaughter and was sentenced to 12.5 years in prison.

Neither can ever again have contact with Zachary's three siblings, including his 8-year-old sister who witnessed the beating and testified in the case.
