Police release sketch of suspected murder victim
September 19, 2012

snipped...The woman, believed to be somewhere in her mid-20s to early 40s, was between five feet two inches and five feet six inches tall with a small frame and shoulder length, wavy black hair. A forensic examination of the body revealed visible dental work and discolouration on her front teeth as well as evidence of a significant lower-back injury that the woman likely suffered months or year before her death. The injury may have required a visit to the emergency room, several days of bed rest and possibly even a back brace, said police.

The victim was wearing black VS Miss brand skinny jeans and medium-brown slip-on Adidas shoes at the time of her death, said Pound. The jeans and the shoes were likely bought in Europe or on line, she said.

Homicide investigators have issued a plea for international public assistance after learning a woman found dead in North Vancouver last month may have had connections outside the country....

The brown Adidas slip-on shoes and black VS Miss-brand skinny jeans she wore appear to only be sold in Europe, though possibly also online, said Sergeant Jennifer Pound of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team...

Sgt. Pound said the victim was between 5-foot-2 and 5-foot-6, in her mid 20s to early 40s, with shoulder-lengthy, wavy, blue-black hair. Also on display at the news conference were photos of the victim’s teeth, which showed a number of caps on the front, top teeth that may help friends and family members identify her....

“...We’re hoping this information reaches a broader group and goes international.”

Link to a map of where she was found, per the Globe and Mail Article from my post above... Sorry, I don't know how to embed the map directly in this post...

Police located the body at 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 18, following a report from a resident of what appeared to be human remains in the 2000-block of Curling Road. They found the body six metres from a popular trail, amid the bushes and trees that concealed the path from street view.

Curling road appears to be quite short - runs from Capilano westward until it curves and turns into Glenaire. The RCMP release states she was found at Curling Road and Belle Isle Place - which don't actually intersect, but Belle Isle Place runs in a loop/cul-de-sac just a few meters north of where Curling Road hits the curve. You can clearly see some trees/shrubs there on the Google Map.

The neighborhood looks like it's mixed commercial/residential. Several fitness facilities nearby, as well as hotels and a couple of gas stations and chain-type eateries. I'm guessing she was pretty well concealed if she was there long enough to decompose so badly... I hope someone can give her her name back.

Some additional details found while Googling...

...Police wouldn’t reveal what kind of injuries may have caused the woman’s death, but they did say it appeared someone had made efforts to conceal the body...

...Police believe now that they could have been there anywhere from months to two years...

...Residents reported that the wooded area, which is cut through by a path that backs on to a Travelodge motel, was known as a site of drug activity and a place where homeless people camped out. But Pound couldn’t elaborate on whether police believed the woman was homeless...

IHIT’s Sgt. Jennifer Pound said there is evidence she was murdered, though police won’t release a cause of death to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Investigators don’t think anyone has reported the woman missing...Her top front teeth would be discoloured, police said. And those who know her might be aware of a previous spinal injury — two broken vertebrae — which would’ve required surgery and hospitalization...

I guess they wouldn't have noticed the tattoos that Vanessa had due to decompisition? If not then it's worth it to submit it based on the dentals!

http://globalnews.ca/news/1405315/police-seeking-help-in-identifying-female-victim-of-2012-north-shore-homicide/

Police are hoping a 3D recreation of a woman’s face will generate some clues to help identify her and provide information in a suspected homicide that happened in August 2012...

Along with a 3D rendering of what the woman may resemble, IHIT has also released images of the types of clothing she was wearing at the time of her death. The specific items appear to only be sold in Europe or possibly online.

Per LE from the video at above link:

"She has a very intense brow and a very squared-off jawline to her."

Hmm, I'm really not seeing an intense brow there.

A couple notes for future reference on this one: the recons were terrible, IMO, the sketch is of a white woman, and the 3D recon did a poor job of accentuating the brow/jaw and instead called attention to the goofy nose they put on, which they likely didn't have reference for.

Also, investigators speculated the body had been there for up to 2 years, and in reality it was there for ~3 weeks.

Just some things to note as we go forward with matching other UIDs.
