I love this match but this woman was last seen on a cruise ship.

It's a shame because she fits the description, right down to the onyx ring.

Date Of Birth: May 12, 1974
Age at Time of Disappearance: 23 years old
Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'6"; 120 lbs.
Distinguishing Characteristics: White female. Brown, short hair; green eyes.
Marks, Scars: 2 and a half inch scar on her right shin. Tattoos: a Tasmanian Devil spinning a basketball, on her back left shoulder; a Japanese sun, on her lower back; a Chinese symbol, on her right ankle; and a blue Gecko lizard, around her navel. She also has a navel ring and multiple ear piercings.
Jewelry: Silver navel hoop with blue bead (ie; the D could have had a belly button piercing as opposed to just one ear pierced), a man's silver watch with blue face, a silver college ring with a black onyx stone on her right hand, and a thin silver band with cutout "turtles" on her left hand.
DNA: Available

Nevermind, this one doesn't match at all. I'm an idiot :x LOL

NamUS has a huge list of ruleouts (285 at the moment). She also had quite a few fillings in her teeth:

#12- distal occlusal amalgam
#14- distal occlusal and root canal palatal
#18- mesial occlusal amalgam
#20- distal occlusal amalgam
#29- distal occlusal amalgam

Could this be Linda Lunsford? According to Virginia's missing person web site she hasn't been ruled out. Their faces certainly look similar.

Dixie Dawn,

Linda Lunsford's Charley page says that she is 5'1,http://www.charleyproject.org/cases/l/lunsford_linda.html the UID is estimated as being 5'9. While I have seen the height being off many times before by a few inches, I have never seen it by that much. But then again... Linda isn't on the rule out list either and the time frame fits. Too bad they don't have a description of what Linda was wearing the day she went missing.

I e-mailed a friend of mine who is a crime scene investigator to just see if she thinks they might be one and the same. She's in FL so not exactly submitting it to anyone who might get their hopes up. If she thinks it's a match I'll call Chesterfield police.

She said it definitely looked promising and I was geared up to call, then I realized something. I lived in that area for 23 years, there is NO WAY a woman is going to be wearing a t-shirt and shorts in December. Especially if she's working night shift. I'm going to keep looking, though. I grew up near where this woman was found, even went to Witches Pond once as a teenager, so I really hate to see an UID go unsolved here.

I wouldn't not call it because of that. For one thing, the detailed description seems to indicate the presence of other clothing that had rotted away, so maybe she was wearing shorts under her jeans for some reason. Or her other clothing might have been discarded elsewhere.

I really don't think this is Linda Lunsford. She was a hardworking, down to earth woman. The only thing that sounds right is the Redskins shirt. The majority of Amelia residents are Redskins fans. If this UID is Linda, she almost certainly 'dressed up' by her murderer for whatever reason.

Also, she was a very tiny lady. Unless the 5'9" estimate is wrong.

ETA: She lived in Amelia County, but worked in Chesterfield. She probably would have had a 30 minute commute to work.

Could this possibly be Janice Moss? http://doenetwork.org/cases/2294dfny.html

She is listed as African American, but she appears to be of mixed ethnicity (could possibly explain the braids listed on the UID). She went missing from New York in April 1998, but was on her way to Virginia with her boyfriend.
Thoughts?

Janice definitely looks like she's of mixed ethnicity to me. I wonder if she's wearing a wig in her doe network pic?

More importantly, I think doe net has its dates wrong. It states she went missing in April 1998 at age 30 but that she was born in september 1959, which would make her 38.

Namus lists her date of disappearance as October 1989, which would preclude Janice from being our doe: https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/show/9979

I cannot figure out which date is correct. Can anyone else?

I dunno. She does look possible. She does look mixed race -- many mixed race people idenify as AA -- Mr. Obama for example -- so while that's a big negative I don't see it as quite a ruleout. I don't think the facial resemblance is terribly strong, but we've seen reconstructions be off target before.

With that many ruleouts, it seems likely that something we think we know about the UID might be out of line.

I'd say send her in. The worst that happens is that it's not a match.

Thanks Carbuff. You have raised a really good point here. I thought it was odd that the UID is listed as being white and yet her hair was said to be short and worn in braids. That isn't typical of Caucasian women, at least it's not common where I live.

I agree about the recon not being a good match. I guess it never hurts to check.

It's not uncommon on the east coast for white kids of both sexes to have braids and even dreads, especially artists and musicians. Not real common, either. The reconstruction looks like she had tons of tiny braids which is definitely more of an AA thing.
