I'm not sure why I have been drawn to this case. Perhaps it's because this took place fairly close to where I live, or because this happened between friends, or because all involved were "the nicest guys", or all of the above. I am just saddened about the whole situation, and the motive is still unknown for the time being. I have linked a few MSM articles (and one video). All of the articles I have found pretty much say the same thing, but a few include some additional information.

Martin is accused of walking across the street to Mike Scally's (friend/neighbor) and shooting/killing both Mike and Doug in the driveway of Mike's house.

From the articles, neighbors speculate the shooting started with an argument over politics. Interesting to note that the shooting occurred minutes into the presidential debate. Also, the shooting took place on the anniversary of MH's wife's death:

"Five years ago to the day Wednesday, neighbors said, Hohenegger's wife died, and the retiree was seen drinking a bit more frequently." http://www.sfgate.com/crime/article/Tragedy-The-neighborhood-s-nicest-guys-3918812.php

Doug(50), Mike(58), and Martin(65) were apparently best friends, so I'm not so sure about politics being the main motive. I think the anniversary of MH's wife's death may have played a role in the shooting.

Additionally, MH is an ex-marine (serving 1966-68 as a marine during the Vietnam War). MOO, I don't really think this has much to do with the motive, if at all.

A Vallejo man convicted of two counts of first-degree murder in the shooting death of his two friends will most probably spend the remaining of his life in prison.

Martin Hohenegger, 68, was sentenced to 100 years to life in a state prison Tuesday by Solano County Superior Court Judge Ramona Garrett.
