REMEMBER: We don't sleuth or disparage or insinuate about family UNLESS LE or MSM give us reason to. If that happens, the mods will let you know.

ALSO - we don't post random pics of people on facebook. We DO NOT involve the innocent in these horrific cases.

Sometimes you might stumble across something that you think is pertinent, but is against TOS to post. If that happens, the best course of action is to make a note of it and keep it UNDER YOUR HAT. Don't post here. Wait to see if the parametersof the case change so that the info does become important. If in doubt, contact a Mod for help.

Social Networks

Regarding Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and other social networking or blog websites: Links may be used to direct posters to view something on a social networking page. But postings on social networking sites are not considered fact; they are rumor. Copying and pasting, or taking screen caps, directly from these pages is not allowed. Paraphrasing is okay. (Exception: If the Twitter or Facebook post belongs to a verified news station, it may be copied. But a link should still be provided.)

Also, social networking pages may only be linked if they are directly related to a case, i.e. the victim or suspect. We don't want to post to someone's mother, brother, employer, milkman, or postal carrier just because they know the main player. We also NEVER link to minor's pages (unless they are the victim). And be sure that the page actually belongs to the person being discussed. Do not link to someone if you are not 100% sure it is the correct person. And if a social networking is set to private and you get in the back way, you may not post what you find. Private means private!

MOD WARNING:

Any further discussion of ANY member here is going to result is a loss of posting privileges for a week.
This hysteria and WILD speculation is utterly ridiculous and RUDE. I've watched perfectly innocent people, (members in good standing here!) be alluded to (sometimes outright, other times more thinly veiled) as a possible perp for weeks now and hoped folks would calm down.
Patience is officially gone. There is little I feel so strongly about as this.
STOP IT NOW. Zero tolerance.

You've touched my heart all the way here in Australia Jessica. I'm so sorry this happened to you. May justice be served. *advertiser censored*

The cold, harsh way he looked at them. The unease they just couldn't shake off when he did.

So, when Austin Reed Sigg was arrested Tuesday night, accused of strangling 10 -year-old Jessica Ridgeway, dismembering her and placing her body parts under the two-story home where he lived, many of the girls in that Denver suburb weren't shocked.

"He was so infatuated with the idea of death," Hannah Bane, a college classmate told a local reporter.

Shame he didnt practice on himself!

Good Morning,

I have alot of catching up to do here and a boatload of work at work! I hope I can try and catch up.
I woke this morning with this whole thing weighing heavily on my mind.

This young man is messed up. I can't even imagine how messed up at this point. From what I'm reading, he's beyond my scope of even understanding. I try but his sickness can bring you down just trying to understand that. I don't plan on going there and hope I never do. It's like trying to understand evil. I don't want to go there.

Tomorrow is another day though...

I've been lurking and following this heinous crime from the get-go. My heart is broken for Jessica's family.

I am greatful that his mother did the right thing here. I want to know how she figured it out.

This guy is one scarey person. He will never see light of day or harm another female.

Court at what time, eastern time pls? 8am there so 10 am? Tia

I can't quit thinking about the randomness! I had to tell my youngest 11 yr old about this & Autum's case. I can't let him think there is no evil. He must be aware of a random teen boy or really any random stranger. I'm fine w/ keeping my kids scared. Aware.

Being 17 didn't hinder him from being fully prepared to commit an organized brutal murder that involved dismemberment of his victim and the hauling of the victim's torso to one area, the hiding of other remains in the same home in which his mother and sibling reside, some serious clean-up somewhere along the way, and the neat depositing of the victim's personal belongings. Whether he's telling the truth about how and when he actually killed this child or not, he made a series of decisions over a period of time that, from where I'm sitting, are not a product of off the cuff adolescent reasoning.

He spent time on this crime. He found ways to not only find and abduct a victim, subdue her, tie her (this means he had a means to do so at his immediate disposal), dismember her body, separate parts he wanted to dispose of from parts he wanted to keep in his close proximity, he folded articles of clothing, placed them in the victim's pack, and left it upright on a residential sidewalk where it was sure to be noticed. Note, he didn't toss her backpack with items she had in it, as the pack existed when he encountered her - rather, he controlled what LE found in that pack and how it appeared when found. Putting clothing only he could have removed from the victim in the pack that was part of the LE description of what the public should be on alert for is, in my opinion, a thoughtfully considered behavior. A profiler, whose remarks were in MSM news articles, said it sent the message, 'I did this, I'm the one you're looking for.'

He's been described in the MSM by a friend as being "arrogant" and he was also described as "brilliant." He confessed to his mother, then confessed again to LE in some detail, yet, in my view, either told a tale that isn't entirely plausible, or, the police aren't filling in all the blanks just yet. It makes no sense to me that he simply grabbed a kid, quick hog-tied her in the car, then immediately strangled her, then transported the torso (where's the part about how she ended up "not intact"?) to the dump site, dropped off the backpack on a sidewalk, standing it up, then went home and hid the rest of her remains in the crawlspace. Just like that? Boom?

And if he did kill her that quickly, in my view, it was because he ultimately wanted a body to control and perform further acts of brutality on for his own enjoyment, and that requires goal setting and a highly organized skill set.

I worked with some scary people while doing casework in a non-profit social services environment, and what linked the sociopaths together and separated them from the rest of my clients, was the desire to talk about things that interested them in a manner that manipulated the listener and drove the conversation in a direction that was satisfying to the storyteller. On the surface, it appears this individual gave it all up because he was essentially already caught, and that may be so, but at another level, I don't buy that he's finished with exerting his control over what LE does and believes about him. He may be telling most of the truth, but I suspect he is enjoying feeling some measure of control over the disclosure of some of the details of what he's done. Frankly, his remark about "distracting" LE says to me he's been closely watching the coverage since its been theorized in the media that the backpack could be a distraction. His claim sounds like a manipulative parroting of that. Just my opinion.

For a predator, it's not just about the killing. It's about the savoring of the entire crime and re-living it, and conveying information in a controlled manner that is always about drawing attention to the perpetrator and his 'power' or skill. It's never about the victim or the families or anyone else. Victims are simply pawns in a predator's endgame.

He may only be 17, but what we know so far about him strikes me as someone who's proud of his accomplishments. He was described as "cooperative" with the police after he turned himself in at his home.

This individual also had the nerve to try and overcome an adult woman with a chemical soaked rag and he wasn't deterred by his failure. He simply sorted out a weaker victim in his culling of the herd.

In my view, he's no less cunning or tactically shrewd than any other predator simply because he happens to be in an adolescent body.
I think your post should be in the prosecution's closing statement to the jury in the event there is a trial which I don't know because he confessed to police.

I agree Pearl. Jillycat's comment would make a very good closing statement for the prosecution, except imo, this case will never make it to trial. Imo, based on Sigg's confession, his age, and recent prosecution strategies in other high profile homicide/serial killer cases. Life without the possibility of parole; plea agreements, have been the norm.
There are many reasons for this strategy, which I will save for another day.

Those who know him say Sigg was into forensics.
He won awards in student crime scene investigation competitions.
His father, on the other hand, had a history of committing them.

'Siggs, seemed to be the classic 'cat and mouse' narcissistic malignant psychopathic predator living out his deviant fantasies in tragic reality'... Sadly he is not the first, last, or the only..

*“She was freaked out by a teenager staring at her at the park.” Emily Alexander says Sigg’s stare was so cold that her daughter remembered it days later.
“After Jessica was kidnapped she told me she knew who it was. She was sure she knew who it was and it was this teenager. A few days later he was walking by and she pointed him out and she said ‘That’s the guy!’ That was him.”

Wow, that's spooky that a little girl suspected him all along.

So far behind, I don't know if this has already been posted:

Classmates: Ridgeway suspect fascinated by crime-scene forensics
By Karen Augé and Kevin Simpson

...Sigg excelled in the class, even taking second place in Warren Tech's science fair, she said. The subject of his project: decomposing bodies.

...As a fifth-grader, Sigg attended Witt Elementary, the same school Jessica
Robert Sigg Ridgeway was headed to when she disappeared Oct. 5.

I was very happy to come here earlier today and find there'd been an arrest. I'm absolutely speechless at the details though, which is why I've struggled to post anything until now.

This case has absolutely shaken me to my very core. I don't understand how someone could do such a horrible thing to a sweet, beautiful, darling little girl like Jessica. The whole case has seemed so surreal, like something that only happens in a horror movie. And then to find out that this sick person is only 17 years old? I honestly thought we were dealing with someone older, I just couldn't believe that someone so young could do something as sickening as this. And after finding that dear Autumn's killers were only teenagers as well... I just can't even begin to comprehend that two beautiful girls were taken away by killers so young.

I just feel so... disgusted. Although, that doesn't even begin to describe how sick this has all made me feel.

Rest in peace, dear Jessica. I will be lighting a candle for you tonight.
May your family find the strength to face this evil, and know that you are forever smiling down on them, happy and free.

I told my 10yo about Autumn yesterday morning and started telling him about Jessica yesterday evening and he's like, you already told me this. No, there's more teens who kill. Scary. And hard to fathom. I just wonder if this was the perp's first time. Again, how I ache for their mothers. My 10 yo has a dad who's in prison and I try my best to handle it alone. I have 2 off in college (different dad but little to no involvement from him) so screw the difficult upbringing sob story.

Jacqueline Miller, who shared a Psychology 101 class with Sigg at Arapahoe Community College, remembered that when the semester began in August, the instructor asked students about their majors. Sigg, she recalled, announced that his major was mortuary science.

When Miller presented a paper on anti-social personality disorder, Sigg seemed particularly intrigued that she used serial killer Ted Bundy as a case.

As Miller explained how Bundy had no empathy for his victims, she noticed Sigg chuckling to himself.
"He was so lit up about what I was saying," Miller recalled. "He was asking about it. He was intrigued. It was almost like he was excited about it.

"He said he was intrigued by dead bodies. There was something creepy about him."

All Kids should learn a little self defense.
