Police 'ignored witness who heard scream for help from Shacknai mansion hours before Rebecca Zahau was found dead'

23 Sept. 2011

A witness who claims to have heard a 'scream for help' hours before the girlfriend of pharmaceuticals tycoon Jonah Shacknai was found dead at
his California mansion has said they were ignored by police twice.
The informant, who has not been identified, told RadarOnline that they tried to report the information to police on two occasions but were 'blown off'.
The person contacted the family of the dead woman, Rebecca Zahau, on Wednesday with the information, which casts doubt on the conclusion that she committed suicide.

Officer Adkins also noted what he described as “recent damage to the top of the banister rail and the corner spindle at the top of the stairs.” He also noted paint chips near the cornerspindle.” Officer Adkins noted that there was no damage to the rest of the banister. According to Officer Adkins, he was told by Jonah Shacknai during an interview that the damage to the top hallway banister and the paint chips were not there the day before the incident.

Coronado Mansion Death Called Suicide; Family Objects
Sep. 2, 2011

Bremner said Zahau was not alone in the mansion when Max had his accident. She said that two of the child's teenage siblings were present as well and that Zahau was in the shower at the time of the accident.

Bremner said investigators told her that the child had been conducting a trick known as "planking," or lying horizontally in unusual locations, around the staircase when he fell.

Reports allege history of domestic violence in Shacknai home

Newly released police reports from Arizona document allegations of a volatile relationship between Jonah Shacknai and his second ex-wife.

The records detail three incidents at the pharmaceutical tycoon's Arizona residence between 2007 and 2009. In one case, Shacknai claimed his wife had been drinking and taking prescription drugs before trying to choke him in September 2008.

Mansion Deaths Put Spotlight on Past Accusations of Violence By Jonah Shacknai

In Arizona police reports obtained this week by ABC News Shacknai's ex-wife Dina Shacknai said she was "scared of what he is capable of doing to me physically … and the lengths he would go to try to 'destroy' me."

Shacknai denied the allegations, telling police Dina had filed "false and misleading reports."

Shacknai said his wife came at him and tried to choke him, according to the documents.

In January 2009, Dina Shacknai accused her husband of elbowing her in the breast. Shacknai told police he was trying to "nudge" her out of his car because she had reached for the ignition and tried to grab the steering wheel as he attempted to drive away. He also claimed he had been assaulted "several times" by his wife.
