A woman who liked to dress as a vampire allegedly preyed on a 13-year-old boy.

The alleged victim of 32-year-old Zakiya Gaskins came over to play with her children and one of them asked him to spend the night.

The boy told police Gaskins took him into her bedroom repeatedly and engaged in sexual activity.

The boy also told investigators prior to the assault, Gaskins offered him a fruit drink spiked with alcohol. Some expressed disgust over the alleged abuse of a 13-year-old boy.

Residents say Gaskins moved in a few months back. They also say Gaskins and the mother of the 13-year-old alleged victim became friends.

After authorities arrested her Saturday, police say Gaskins talked freely about what had happened. They say she stated she did not force the boy and he knew what he was doing.

SW woman charged with sexual assault of son’s 13-year-old friend during sleepover

By Keith L. Alexander, January 18, 2012

Invited to spend the night playing video games at a friend’s home, the 13-year-old asked his friend’s mother to call his family first. Later, prosecutors say, the mother sexually assaulted the teen over the course of the night, her children begging her to stop from outside a closed bedroom door.

Police arrested Zakiya Gaskins, 32, of Southwest Washington, on Saturday, charging her with first-degree sexual abuse in the alleged Jan. 14 incident.

Gaskins lives in the 1500 block of First Street SW with her three young children, according to authorities. The teen had been playing at the apartment when the oldest, a 9-year-old, asked him to spend the night, according to court papers.

Earlier that day, authorities said, Gaskins had offered the teen alcohol. During a hearing Wednesday in D.C. Superior Court, Darryn Robinson, a detective with the D.C. police’s youth investigations branch, testified that when the teen arrived at her apartment, she gave him a glass of fruit drink mixed with vodka. He took a sip, tasted the alcohol and refused to drink any more of it, Robinson said.

That night and the next morning, Gaskins pulled the teenager into her bedroom “between five and 10 times,” Robinson said the teen told him, her children banging on the bedroom door and “crying for their mom to let him go.”

Gaskins prevented the teen from leaving the apartment before morning, he allegedly told police.

During an initial interview with police, Gaskins denied touching the teenager. But in a follow-up interview, Robinson said that Gaskins acknowledged some “contact” with the teen, saying he “wanted” to touch her and “knew what he was doing.”

Sitting in the courtroom Wednesday with her hands and ankles shackled, Gaskins at times bowed her head and wiped away tears.

Judge Robert E. Morin ordered Gaskins to remain in the D.C. jail because of a pending case involving threats she allegedly made against a neighbor. Her attorney, Thomas L. Dybdahl of the Public Defender Service, had wanted her released to a halfway house or her mother’s house.

Dybdahl also requested a mental and psychological examination for Gaskins. A trial was set for March 5.

---- includes Video ----

D.C. police arrested a mother of three after she allegedly sexually abused a 13-year-old boy during a sleepover.

“I was enraged,” his grandmother said. “I was upset that a grown woman would do this to a 13-year-old child.”

...

Gaskins made the 13-year-old touch her private parts, according to court documents. She told police the boy voluntarily touched her.

“My grandson was smart enough to know that what she was doing was not right,” the boy’s grandmother said.

Gaskins was charged with first-degree sexual assault and is being held without bond.

There’s a Double Standard for Child Predators, and This Case Proves It

Zakiya Gaskins is clearly not playing with a full deck. When a 13-year-old kid came over to hang out with one of her children and ultimately decided to spend the night, the 32-year-old single mother of three first tried to liquor the boy up with a fruity, vodka-based cocktail. When the alcoholic bribe didn’t work — he didn’t like the taste — she got forceful, pulling the poor child into her bedroom repeatedly, even as her own kids pounded on the door, begging her to let him out.

Now here’s where the difference comes in. If this was a grown man assaulting a 13-year-old girl, everyone — men, women, black, white, teenage, elderly — would be appalled. But because it’s a chick making the sexual advances, guys who’ve commented on the story have said things like “I wish someone that hot would’ve hit on me when I was his age” and “he must be a virgin.” Ugh. Stupid isn’t even the word...

When a boy is sexually abused by a woman ‘people do not often recognize the harm’

This is an important article and discusses the double standard, at times, (when a woman abuses a boy) that there is when it comes to the sexual abuse of boys compared to girls. The effects of the sexual abuse are no different for a boy or girl. They both bring shame, confusion, a breech of trust, guilt, and life long issues they will have to deal with. The big difference is that when a woman sexually abuses a boy society sometimes has a different reaction. It is looked at as a right of passage, like it is a good thing. There are several instances I can think of when a woman has abused a boy when the press has printed articles that claimed the effect is different for a boy.

While woman as sexual predators are unusual it still occurs....

...

In the case of Zakiya Gaskins — a Southwest Washington woman charged with sexually assaulting her neighbor’s 13-year-old son in January — authorities had to relocate the teenager and his family because neighbors harassed him after he told his mother that his friend’s mother had sexually assaulted him.

“People were teasing him, asking if he was a ‘punk,’ and what’s wrong with him and why he didn’t like it,” said an official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case is still open.

Gaskins allegedly attacked the boy when he was spending the night with her 13-year-old son at her apartment, a night that was supposed to be filled with video games, prosecutors said.

The woman gave the teenager a glass of fruit juice mixed with vodka, according to court records. Later that evening, according to court records and testimony from a D.C. detective, Gaskins pulled the teenager into her bedroom and sexually assaulted him. Gaskins’s children banged on her bedroom door, crying for their mother to “let him go,” according to court records. When Gaskins fell asleep, the teen fled her bedroom.

At the hearing on Aug. 20, a soft-spoken Gaskins, with her ankles and wrists in shackles, denied forcing the teenager to touch her sexually, but admits the teen did touch her. Gaskins’s attorney, Kevin McCants, said his client was drunk at the time of the incident and unsuccessfully tried to stop the teen from touching her.

Gaskins, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree child sexual abuse, entering an Alford plea, meaning she admitted there was enough evidence to convict her but not conceding that she committed the crime. She is scheduled for sentencing in November and could face about 7½ years in prison.

Gaskins’s three children, who are 13, 9 and 4, live with her mother. Beck ordered Gaskins to remain in D.C. jail until her sentencing. She also will have to register as a child sex offender.

i wonder what she got sentenced to ...

... it was reported sentencing to be in "November and she could face about 7½ years in prison."

... but nothing is in the media ... neither in Public, weekly or monthly PDFs at District attorney / prosecutor's pages..

On November 30, 2012, the Honorable Ronna L. Beck of the District of Columbia
Superior Court sentenced Zakiya Gaskins (“hereinafter Petitioner”) to ninety (90) months in
prison and ten (10) years of supervised released following an Alford plea to one count of First
degree Child Sexual Abuse in DC Superior Court case number 2012-CF1-00898.

She's currently appealing her sentence - arguing that other woman convicted of similar offences during the same time period were sentenced much more lightly.
