This unidentified woman was found in Poland in 1994, and she has a distinguishing feature which is a tattoo of some initials with a rose in the middle.

The police or whomever believe that the tattoo might be DM's logo, which has a rose in the middle. But I think the initials are PM, not DM. What do you think?

The first letter does look like it could be P or a thorn (letter). But due to the rose I am convinced this is supposed to be a Depeche Mode logo. The rose is used on the Violator album and "Enjoy the Silence" single covers. Both were released in 1990, a few years before the UID was found.

I agree. I was a big Depeche Mode fan during that time period, and that was the band's logo.

I think it is Depeche Mode logo. After their concert in Warsaw in 1985 we had an outburst of DM fans and they even formed their own subculture. This girl was found in 1994, when there were still a lot of them, depeches, around.

Depeche Mode is still really big in Central Europe, at least it was the last time I was there 3 or 4 years ago, I was amazed at how ubiquitous they were. Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, we heard them everywhere. We even saw a DM matroyshka. I definitely think it is a DM logo.

Now that I look at it again, I wonder if it could be PM designed to look like a DM logo. Like maybe her beloved (or herself) and she loved the band.

Is it possible this is an old tattoo reworked? With the original tattoo being '11' or double one? It's just that part of the stem of the rose is identical to the vertical line of the 'D', right down to the funny little upturn at the bottom of the line. The D is also much more faded - though this could be decomposition.

Is there any significance in Poland to the number 11, or double 1?

The only thing I can think of offhand is that you only give an odd number of flowers, so 11, not a dozen. Even numbers of flowers are for funerals.

I don't, I assume it's Marki, near Krakow.

It looked a bit like a reworked initial tattoo , possibly adjusted to look like the band logo.

There are a lot of places called "Marki" in Poland. Near Krakow, near Warsaw... Unfortunately I don't have a slighest idea which is the correct one.

November, 11, we celebrate the Independence Day. Nothing else comes to my mind right now. I don't think it is a reworked "11" though it can't be excluded.

I looked into the jeans, since we have so little to go on. I'm thinking they're German as there's a company that was founded in 1932 that adopted the name Mustang Jeans in 1958. It was in West Germany during the separation.

I've been digging a little bit and I discovered that it was trendy among the DM fans to have a depeche tattoo. And in the nineties there were these big fan events organised, people were coming from all the Poland. She might have been a participant of one of these events.

But I think something got messed with the name of the place she was found in. I cannot find anything about her in the net. Zilch, nada, nothing. Hmmm...

I searched for Depeche Mode tattoos on google images and I mostly see the rose logo design.

Okay. I assumed it was Krakow because I found a Marka Street/area came up there. Pretty stupid because there don't seem to be any wooded areas there for her to have been found.

We could really do with an archived newspaper article from the time she was found - her case must have made at least the local news in Poland, if not the national media.

ETA: Can anybody supply the phrase 'body found' or 'remains found' in Polish? I don't think my translator is working too well. When I tried googling 'missing woman' using what I thought was the right phrase, I kept getting wedding organisers??

Can't help with the language, my Polish consists of "thank you" "good day" and "check please"

Polish is a very complicated language, so I'm not shocked that your translator is having fits.

Yes, I know, but when I try to search the polish internet, to find some info about the UID from Marka or Marki I get nowhere. I mean there is no info on any female Does found in the places of that name. And that is a tad weird so I think there might be some mistake about that.

There is actually a wooded area in Marki near Warsaw, the eastern part. I presume it could have been even bigger in the nineties.

Sadly, such cases rarely get to the national media here. For many reasons, one of them is that our LE still does not believe, that the community or general public might help with their investigation. But it is highly possible our UID was mentioned in some local newspaper.

"Znaleziono zwłoki" or "Znaleziono ciało". I already tried searching, nothing found. Maybe you will have better luck.
