It was more than eight years ago in Indiana that Andre Johnson raped and confined a woman, the first of two sexual assaults for which he would go to prison.

On Monday, the victim found herself confronted by her attacker again -- this time at a Target at Roosevelt and Canal in Chicago, where Johnson was working as a security guard.

The woman, who is a representative of a greeting card company, continued with her business, said a police source. But Johnson approached the woman, repeatedly demanding to know her name, police said. When she refused, Johnson allegedly followed her out to her car, again demanding her name and then taking down her license plate.

The exchange with Johnson, who was unarmed, rattled her enough that she drove straight to a local district to make a report.

Officers for the Central district arrested Johnson later that evening and charged him with misdemeanor assault and failing to register in Illinois as a convicted sex offender. He had been living in the Chicago area for roughly a year.

Johnson, 36, told police he didn't recognize the woman and suspected she was a shoplifter. But police said the woman was wearing her identification as a vendor and Johnson's story didn't hold up.

Target officials said Johnson has been fired, and that they were "appalled" by Monday's incident.

What are the odds, raped in Indiana and then 8 yrs later to run into your attacker in Chicago.

Target officials said Johnson has been fired, and that they were "appalled" by Monday's incident.

Got 10 years in 2000

The article very carefully doesn't answer the question of whether or not Target was aware of the guys history when they hired him:

"A conviction for a sex offense does not automatically prevent applicants from getting a license to work as a security guard in Illinois, said Susan Hofer, a spokeswoman for the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Hofer said applicants are asked whether they have been convicted and the details are reviewed.

The Lake County, Ind., prosecutor's office said Johnson was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 2000 for a 1997 incident in which he raped a woman. Then, in 2001, he pleaded guilty to sexual battery for the 1996 attack. It's not clear why Johnson was freed from prison, though he likely received time for good behavior, a prosecutor said."

You know you warn your kids if they get lost in a store (separated from you) to go to a 'store person' for help to find Mommy.

Sheesh... what if the store person is a rapist?!?!?
