HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT/WKYT) - Authorities say a deadly shooting on the campus of Hazard Community and Technical College was likely a domestic situation that "just wound up in the parking lot of the community college."

A man and woman were shot and killed and a female teen wounded in the shooting that police say involved a semi-automatic pistol.

"We just don't know who they are at this time," Hazard Police Chief Minor Allen told reporters. But authorities do not believe those involved were students or connected to the college. Authorites believe the man killed was in his 50s and the woman killed was in her late 20s to early 30s.

The chief says the injured teen was being taken to the University of Kentucky hospital.

Two people were taken into custody but only one is believed to be the shooter, according to the chief.

The injured teen was being taken to a Hazard hospital and then transported to the University of Kentucky hospital.

Conor Duff, the college's evening coordinator, said the shootings happened about 4:30 p.m. at the campus 90 miles southeast of Lexington.

Duff said police then went through the school's two buildings to ensure no one else was at risk.

During the news conference, the college's president Steve Griner told reporters that all activities and classes at the college have been canceled for Wednesday so investigators work on the case.

The child was not injured and was in the custody of social services workers Tuesday night, Engle said.

Custody exchanges should be made at the sheriff's office. Much safer!

I've been following this since shortly after it happened. Watching Taylor's friends posting on facebook was heartbreaking! My daughter was the same age when her friend was murdered. Thank goodness facebook wasn't around then. I hope that her friends get professional help dealing with their grief because they are going to need it!
