A crew of construction workers came across what was later confirmed to be a human bone while they surveyed a private property about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 7100 block of East Riverside Drive near Ben White Boulevard.
Search-and-rescue teams combed through the 9-acre tract Wednesday and found more remains within the brush, said Austin police Sgt. Scott Ehlert of the homicide unit.

Police believe the bones could have been there for anywhere between three months to several years.

Weight can not be estimated. Height is estimated at 65". Samples are being submitted & dentals are available.

you'd think Kellie would be potential match #1 given all the details.

I'd submit her name right away. they don't have identifiers for Kellie but with this body being found, it might light a fire under someone's feet to get someone from her family to submit a DNA sample.

I wonder if this could be one of the many homeless, transient, or panhandlers that are in the Austin area. I've been in this area a few times and its not in the most safest part of Austin.

I wouldn't be able to give it the proper attention or followup so please feel free to submit it. I hope it is so obvious to the investigators that getting the family's DNA is already in progress but nothing surprises me these days.

Roxanne Paltauf is another missing Austin woman. She was only 19 and went missing in 2006 in the summertime wearing flipflops. The UID appears to be slightly older, and one sock was found with the remains, which usually aren't worn with flip-flops. So I wouldn't think this is Roxanne but based on the location, did want to mention her here.

Kellie Hall has been removed from NamUs and the UID is still listed so apparantly it was not her.

Are people only removed from namus when they are found or are there other reasons?

I don't know, but I am watching another case where a UID has been removed from NamUs, most likely identified but is still listed on Doe & the Texas MP/UID site. On that one it may be a timing issue between the agencies as it was very recent.

Thanks for the info. I have been following Kellie's case closely and am interested to hear any news!

TX TX - Julie Ann Gonzalez, 21, Austin, 26 March 2010

Julie Ann Gonzalez's husband was recently charged with her murder but her body has never been found. She was last seen & her vehicle was recovered at the Walgreens at Stassney & 1st in Austin. More information is available in her thread.

(7 miles from where the UID was found) http://goo.gl/maps/k6BkT

She is 60-61" and the UID is listed as 65" so maybe not her, but in light of the recent arrest of George De La Cruz, she came to mind on this UID.

Julie Ann Gonzalez: DNA Sample submitted - Tests complete
https://www.findthemissing.org/cases/5745/1/

Estimated postmortem interval on the UID is: Years

Both the UID & Julie Ann have DNA samples entered so she should probably be an automatic ruleout.

Does anyone know if Rachel Cooke has been ruled out? Or even submitted?

Melissa

Both DNA's are complete so one can assume she has been ruled out. Rachel is such a high profile case I'm sure she was considered early on.....

I would have thought so as well but as Carbuff points out there is only one definite rule out.

Maybe they didn't run Rachel because she is slightly outside of the estimated age range.

If it's a DNA ruleout by default, they don't usually list those specifically.
