    IL - Lee Jump, 43, shot to death, Rock Island, 27 March 2013

    Police identify body found near park in Rock Island ( link )

    Police have identified a man whose body was found near 31st Avenue Park in Rock Island.

    Lee A. Jump, 43, of East Moline, Illinois, was found on the ground near containers on city-owned land in the 100 block of 31st Avenue on Wednesday, March 27, 2013.

    An autopsy performed in Rockford indicated Jump died of a traumatic head injury.

    Police said they were investigating Jumpís death as a homicide.

    According to the Rock Island Police Department, Gene E. Whitney, 44, of Silvis has been charged with first degree murder; Shane M. Howard, 39, of Rock Island has been charged with first degree murder and concealment of homicidal death; and Terry J. Engels, 51, of Silvis has been charged with first degree murder and concealment of homicidal death.
    From February 2014:


    A 45-year-old Silvis man will spend the next 25 years in prison after he was sentenced Wednesday in the March 25 murder of Lee Albert Jump.

    Gene E. Whitney pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder in connection with Jumpís death during a hearing Nov. 22 in Rock Island County Circuit Court. Rock Island County Chief Circuit Judge Jeffrey OíConnor handed down the 25-year sentence that must be completely served under Illinois law...

    Shane M. Howard, 40, of Rock Island, and Terry J. Engels, 51, of Silvis... pleaded guilty to the concealment charge while the murder charges against them were dropped. Engels... was sentenced Wednesday to six months in the Rock Island County Jail and 2Ĺ years on probation. Howard pleaded guilty Wednesday and is scheduled to be sentenced June 10.

    A Rock Island man will serve just 90 days in jail for his part in helping to cover up a murder.

    Shane Howard was sentenced this morning to 30 months probation, 90 days in the Rock Island County Jail with allowances for work release, and a $2500 fine.
