Infant twins found in NJ home with dead mother

Twin babies survived days alone in an apartment in Plainfield, NJ. Authorities said their mother died suddenly, leaving the 3-month-old girls trapped in a crib.

When the door was broken down Wednesday, Jackson's body was found and her children were also located inside the apartment. They'd been inside for nearly one week.

Police said Jackson died of natural causes.

The babies were dehydrated when they were finally rescued.

They are both being hospitalized and are in stable condition.

For days, police said, the twin sisters lay there, crying and soiled, in their East Ninth Street home.

In Jackson’s backyard this afternoon, the girls’ father, George Jones, said Jackson had been ill. He did not elaborate.

"She just went to sleep and didn’t wake up," he said outside the home where Jackson had lived for "a long time."

"She was great person," Jones, 40, said.

Jones said he had driven up from Baltimore, where he lives, to look after his daughters. He said the girls will stay at a local hospital "for a couple of days."

"They’re fine, they’re great," he said.
