TOMS RIVER, N.J. (AP) — A 6-year-old boy who was accidentally shot in the head by a 4-year-old playmate has died from his wounds, authorities said Tuesday night.............

The 4-year-old, whose name was withheld, was not injured.

Prosecutor Joseph Coronato, speaking earlier Tuesday at a news conference, said the boy got the .22-caliber rifle from his home and it discharged accidently Monday evening. The children, whose families live in the neighborhood, were about 15 yards apart.

The younger boy's mother called 911 to report the shooting, Coronato said.............more at link......

Again, a child dies because a gun is available...have your guns if you and they are legal but for goodness sake, keep them away from children...and there is no excuse IMO.

Ugh, between this, and the accidental shooting in TN... :sigh:

And yet still, all I keep hearing from gun lovers is how responsible gun owners are.... :what:

A Toms River man, who accepted responsibility for the fatal shooting of his 6-year-old neighbor by his 4-year-old son, was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison for leaving the loaded rifle that killed the boy unsecured and accessible to the children in his home...

The loaded rifle wasn't the only firearm left unsecured in Senatore's house that day, authorities said. There also were four shotguns, with ammunition nearby, in the Senatore home, accessible to his children, who were ages 12, 8 and 4 at the time of Brandon's death, authorities said.
