CONVICTION OVERTURNED OH - Ronald Miller for attempted murder of wife, Richmond Heights, 2013

RICHMOND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Months after a woman lost control of her car and smashed into the front of a nail salon, investigators have revealed the cause of the crash — and it appears to be no accident.

Now, the woman’s husband is accused of tampering with her car to purposely cause her death.

Ronald Miller, 73, is charged with attempted murder, felonious assault and vandalism. According to court records, he’s indicted for “knowingly trying to cause or attempt physical harm” to his wife, Rhoda Miller, by means of a deadly weapon.

Richmond Heights police say Rhoda Miller ran into the front window of the Nail Expo on Wilson Mills Road back on February 8. Her car struck two columns before it slammed into the salon’s window, causing it to shatter.

Mrs. Miller told officers on scene that she felt her car accelerate and couldn’t get it to stop.

Mr. Miller posted a $10,000 bond earlier this week. He’s due in court again on April 24.

The conviction has been overturned for a Richmond Heights man accused of trying to kill his wife by tampering with her car.

Ronald Miller, 75, was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison in March 2014 after he was convicted on attempted murder charges. But now, a court found prosecutors should not have been allowed to use two key pieces of testimony...

The court said they could find not overwhelming evidence of Ronald Miller’s guilt and he did not receive a fair trial. The court also said that the mechanic who towed the car from the storefront was not an expert witness so a part of his testimony should not have been permitted.
