Matthew Ellis Keith, 37, of Marshall, might not have always stayed out of trouble or kept all of his promises, but he always kept in touch with Joy McBride and their three sons, Ms. McBride said.

“I wish he would come back. People keep saying he’s dead, but I don’t think he is,” said Donavan Keith, 11. “People keep making me think he is. I think there’s a 50-50 chance he’s coming back.”

Tommy [Keith] stopped going to school and is home-schooled now, because of what his mother called abandonment issues, fearing that he would return to find she too was gone.
