As many as 14 people were injured and some killed in a shooting Monday at a Minnesota high school, authorities said. Tom Lyons, chief deputy for Beltrami County, said up to 14 people were injured in the mid-afternoon shooting at Red Lake High School in far northern Minnesota. Lyons said a suspect was in custody, but he had no other details.

I don't know how people can even send their kids to school without worrying about something like this everyday. Awful.

A little bit more

(video link) There are reports from the scene that the victims include students, a teacher and a school guard. A reporter on the scene tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS witnesses reported hearing 15 shots fired.
The North Country Regional Hospital says it has admitted four people as of this publishing, and that they expect more victims.

Horrible! any news on who the shooter is? a student? a stranger?

Not yet Cass. The FBI tends to keep a lid on info until they're ready to release it. I'm trying to find a live feed somewhere.

Small school 300 students. That would be an enormous tragedy anywhere. But that size, they all know each other.

This just makes me sick. My heart goes out to the entire community.

"Apparently, he walked down the hallway shooting and then he entered a classroom, he shot several students and a teacher, then himself," said Stately, who arrived at the high school moments after the shots rang out.
Authorities discovered an hour later that the boy had shot and killed his grandparents, taking the service weapon of his grandfather, a policeman, Stately told KARE-TV.

FBI Special Agent Paul McCabe says there were two shootings that took place about one hour apart.

The first took place at the residence of the shooter’s grandparents. The grandfather is a former police officer and it is believed the shooter used his guns. Both victims were taken to a hospital, where they died.

The shooter then headed to the Red Lake High School where he killed six people, including a teacher and a security guard.

This just goes along with a post I made on Jessie's thread about regional dysfunction. And the inability to bypass this dysfunction. Lord, help us all. People....we need more shrinks all over the country and they need to be studied in regional inferences to really help. Education and huge help could put an estoppel on this horrible kind of thing.

I dunno about more shrinks...I wonder if the boy was on psychiatric medication???? I do not think they are monitored as closely as they should be...(Not that they don't help but they need to be watched closely!!!)

"It will probably take us throughout the night to really put the whole picture together," McCabe said. He said it was too early to speculate on a motive.
Diane Schwanz, a teacher, told The Pioneer of Bemidji that the shooter tried to break down a door to get into a room where some students were.
"I just got on the floor and called the cops," Schwanz said. "I was still just half-believing it."

I dunno Cass, I thought security guards were standard these days along with locked doors and gates. My friends who are teachers are petrified everyday.

Slight update. I didn't realize this was the worst since Columbine. There have been too many.

A student went on a shooting spree Monday, killing his grandparents and five people at his high school on an Indian reservation. The gunman himself was later found shot to death, authorities said. It was the nation's worst school shooting since the Columbine massacre in 1999.
~~Fourteen to 15 other students were injured, including two critically, McCabe said.

Newswolf, they are all bad, but Dunblane was the worst... 16 kindergarden students shot and killed. little babies 4 & 5 years old :(

I am so sorry about this....so very sad....

I also hate the thought that we will probably see "copycat" murders as well now. :(
