Love triangle alleged in Cairns murder case

June 6, 2013

MURDER accused Klaus Andres allegedly expressed a desire to marry another woman before his wife went missing and a neighbour claims she heard the Cairns man arguing with his spouse up to twice a week.

A committal hearing in the Cairns Magistrates' Court yesterday also heard details of how scientists dissolved the remains of two pigs in acid to simulate what they believe happened to the body of Andres' wife, 42-year-old Li Ping Cao.

Andres, 69, is facing seven charges including murder, interfering with a corpse, fraud and unlawful possession of weapons, with police alleging he killed Ms Cao on or about October 30, 2011, before disposing of her body using hydrochloric acid

Andres has pleaded guilty to interfering with his wife's corpse - dissolving her body in a wheelie bin of acid - but says her death was an accident.

His lawyer Tony Glynn told the court today he used acid after he remembered a story about the method on either SBS's Dateline or ABC's Foreign Correspondent.

Andres has also admitted pouring the contents of the wheelie bin down a storm drain outside the couple's house.

Andres believed the state of their relationship and the fact he was having an affair wouldn't paint him in a good light.

Poor Li Ping.. what a horrible way to end up.

I haven't seen much news on this story, but will try to hunt up some more links.

Husband who murdered his younger Chinese wife and dissolved her body in ACID begs to leave prison | Daily Mail Online

A Queensland man who dissolved his wife's body in a wheelie-bin of acid after murdering her is applying for parole after serving less than 10 years in jail.

Klaus Andres, now 78, was sentenced to life behind bars after being found guilty in 2013 of murdering his 42-year-old wife Li Ping Cao.

German-born Andres dissolved Ms Cao's body in a wheelie bin of acid before pouring the remains down a stormwater drain outside the couple's Cairns home.

Queensland's Parole Board is due to hear an aspect of Andres' parole application on Thursday.

The aspect relates to the No Body No Parole law, under which the board cannot grant parole unless 'satisfied that the prisoner has satisfactorily cooperated in the investigation of their offence to identify the victim's location', the Parole Board said in a statement.

The board's decision on Andres' parole application will be published at a later date.
