Unbelievable:

ALBANY, N.Y. -- A woman who says the state of New York paid her to do nothing has settled a federal civil rights lawsuit.

Patricia Freund said she did nothing but read books in a back room during the past three years as a director at the State Liquor Authority. For that, she was paid nearly $83,000 a year.

With benefits, her job cost taxpayers about $100,000 a year.

The 25-year state employee filed suit, saying her bosses took away her duties after she questioned the practice of state employees attending Gov. George Pataki's annual prayer breakfast.

As part of the settlement, she'll be moving to a new job with the Department of Motor Vehicles, at the same salary.

The Albany Times Union reported Friday that she'll also get $33,000 for legal fees.

83,000.00 for reading books in the back room?

I would think they should fire the supervisor who took away her job duties, and promote her. Kind of a whistle blower award and promotion all in one.

So that job is available now? How do I get an application?
