FORT WORTH, Texas — A suspended Texas Christian University student has been indicted on a charge of felony murder for allegedly injecting heroin into the arm of the grandson of billionaire T. Boone Pickens and causing his death.

Brennan Trainer Rodriguez, who turns 22 later this month, committed an act "clearly dangerous to human life" when he injected Thomas "Ty" Boone Pickens IV with heroin, causing Pickens' death, according to the indictment. The indictment states Rodriguez was in the commission of a felony - delivery of a controlled substance - when he committed the act.

If convicted of the first-degree felony, Rodriguez faces 5 to 99 years or life in prison.

The cousin told police that Rodriguez asked him to drive Pickens to the hospital because another person had overdosed on heroin at his apartment about two months earlier. In that case, 911 was called and the person survived, but Rodriguez "got in trouble," the affidavit says.

Investigators later interviewed the man who had overdosed.

He said he went to Rodriguez's apartment because he wanted to try heroin and knew Rodriguez did the drug, the affidavit says. He said that Rodriguez shot him up and the next thing he remembered was waking up at the hospital.

A man will serve four months in prison after acknowledging in a plea deal with North Texas prosecutors that he caused the death of Texas billionaire T. Boone Pickens' grandson by injecting him with heroin.

Tarrant County prosecutors said Monday that 23-year-old Brennan Rodriguez was sentenced to 10 years' probation after pleading guilty to delivery of a controlled substance. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dropped murder and other charges against Rodriguez.
