The questionnaire includes topics such as oral sex, dating and birth control. It will be given to kids in grades 6-12. District officials note there hasn't been any updated data on sexual activity among students since 1993. And district health official Jennifer Staab said students who took a test survey in October seemed eager to participate and wanted even more questions.

Parents say the survey is so detailed that it's pornographic

I'll bet the parents who are complaining are the same parents who say....."not my daughter/son" when someone brings up the subject of sexual activity.

Not having seen the questions, it's hard to judge, but we need to know what our children are doing...and we need to be at least as educated in sex as they are. Not pleasant, but true.

From the link:

The parents don't want their kids getting any ideas from a Monroe County school survey that will ask students very detailed and intimate questions.

Some parents have their heads in the sand if they think their kids don't already have "ideas." They don't want their kids to be educated about sexuality and then have the nerve to be surprised when their 15 year olds become pregnant.

My teenaged daughter and I talked openly about sex, and sometimes her friends did also. Some of those kids could have taught the sex ed class!
(They were the ones who explained to me about pop rocks, altoids, and liquid candy and their uses)

I think it's a good idea, and I think the results should be shared with the parents as well. Unfortunately, most parents would be completely blown away by the results.

It doesn't sound like that big a deal. But I wonder if the students would be truthful when answering, or answer depending on what they thought "all the other students" were doing.

OUch a tough one...

All I can say is that a 15 year old can only get pregnant if left alone or unsupervised.
6th grade isn't a 15 year old its more like a 12 year old.

Although my children are fairly open and we talk I don't know how comfy I would be with this.
I guess it really depends upon the questions themselves.
I mean if you asked (for example) even my 12 year old if they have had sex or oral sex or even basic knowledge of birth control I wouldn't have a problem but what do they mean by explicit??
Are the questions truly explicit?? Or are we talking some parents with blinders on?? And the Very mention of sex to their children is *advertiser censored*?

My 10 and 11 year old are very "naive." We live in a very conservative small town in Texas. However, I've heard stories of other kids that age who probably know more than I do about sex - so age doesn't seem to matter much these days. I FEEL SO OLD!!! LOL

Possibly location should play a part as well??

For example Overtown Miami FL or Compton CA??
